The Earth is an organism to itself, which all things on it, including ourselves, are a part of, and it has a spirit.
Kind of like an ant colony - scientist call it a super-organism. Yes there are individual members but really the whole colony acts like one organism comprised of many parts. Each member alone is a rather minuscule portion of what makes the colony survive but added together they have a lot of impact. You can destroy parts without affecting the colony but if you keep destroying it, you will eventually kill the colony.

I've only recently read about the Gaia Theory, that the earth is actually a living entity itself. But that is about all I know about it... I read it on a website called the Church of All Worlds... which was a tad strange, IMO. Though the Gaia Theory was a little interesting... I just didn't get deep enough into it.

There are two schools concerning Gaia...
the first is the "living planet" as a bio-sphere philosophy.
Which just an interesting avenue of scientists that probably grew out of greenpeace and found money to be had in this "new" ideology.
The other has Greek and Roman basis
but I kind of ascertain a certain amount of Celtic and Native American animism to it
and that is the Goddess...otherwise known as "mother Earth"
I know a little of this if ever you care to discuss it.

There are a number of answers. It can be the Greek mother goddess, the Earth goddess, comparable to the Norse Erda.
There are a number of other uses of the term. See the Wikipedia disambig page here:

I've seen it used as a reference to the earth as a spiritual, living organism which is a concept I quite like. It fits in with my Buddhist ideals of the oneness of creation.

The principle is that EVERYTHING is made of spirit. And
spirit has intelligence, and emotion. Earth is living being.
The book of Job says,
"Ask the Earth and it will teach you,
And the birds of the air and they will teach you,
and the fishes of the sea will declare it unto you!"
