Hello!! :o) I hope you're OK. IF Fred Phelps [and those in his family who 'follow' him] did not CLAIM to be 'Christians' - would they have been institutionalized years ago?! This is a serious question. [Being asked BY a Christian] Do we allow far too much freedom to the 'crazies' of the world simply because they SAY that what they are doing is being done in the 'Name of God'?! Have a great day!! Craig!! :o)

I was reading over in Matt.25 verses 33-46 and its for them.Actually , they don't need to be institutionalized, they need to be in prison. They are a cult. They are not Christians ( they have no love ) Matt. Chapter 7--verse 16 & 20. "By their fruits you will know them." How much love does people have when they want to protest at a funeral ? This needs to be completely outlawed (no exceptions of any kind ) I am still in shock that they wanted to protest at the' Amish funerals ' , over of all things homosexuals. There is a scripture in the New Testament that states satan will stand in the pulpits.Cant find it,right now.I loathe them for saying they are doing it in the name of God. They are doing it in the name of satan. They are doing evil under the pretense of Christianity. People should call e-mail their Reps. and Senators or call them or fax them. God Bless

Yes, if Christians in general didn't claim to be Christians they would all have been institutionalized a long time ago.

"Once we can look at religion objectively and impartially, it becomes entirely obvious that religion has all the characteristics of a form of insanity. To one degree or another the religious mind must accept, and believe in, another world; a supernatural or unnatural world, a world filled with all sorts of imaginary beings called gods, devils, angels, saints, demons, etc. These imaginary creatures are talked to, asked for favors, guidance, "signs", or miracles, and then blamed or thanked for natural events that follow. Except for the cloak of religion, such beliefs and actions would otherwise cause an individual to be judged insane, and committed to an institution for treatment."

No Craig they would not have been istitutionalized because as wrong as it is they have a right to protest whatever they want. They were scheduled to come to our town, Laurel, MS to protestthe funeral service of a young man who had fought and died in the Iraq war. Some how they "missed" their flight. Perhaps it was because he grew up about 45 miles north of Laurel in Meridian, MS and he knew that the good people of the "Free State of Jones" wouldn't put up with his "church's " picketing of one of our own. So many people turned out at the young mans memorial service with no other thought in mind than to protect the family members from this injustice in their time of grief. The Freedom Riders were here, as were several local bikers (including my husband) and the DAR was here, the police and sheriffs department were on the scene some of the officers were off that day but they came out in support of this young man and his family. The young man was only 32 he was a young African American man, he left a wife and three children, his mother and many other friends and family members. I was proud to see all the people (of all colors, backgrounds and beliefs) in my town rally around this family to protect them from this man and his "family". A person can claim to be a Christian all day long but if they don't behave in a Christ like manner then their claims are but empty words. No family should have to put up with anyone elses views on the lifestyle or actions of their loved one at the funeral service, that is just wrong. Have a good day.

Yes. I believe if they didn't call themselves Christian, they would be locked up, at least. It would most likely be considered a terroristic cult, but because they claim to be Christian and quote the Bible (of course, only those things that supports their views), they are given that extra freedom. I find it outrageous that they allow them to picket soldiers funerals. And then they claim those soldiers are not fighting for their freedoms... those freedoms they are taking advantage of. All the while spreading hatred towards Homosexuals. It's pathetic.

one should be able not only to say in words " I am a ( whatever religious belief system you personally follow or not follow here ) but I am able to walk the walk and talk the talk of what I personally believe while respecting your right to do the same.

Just give them time. Eventually they will pull a stunt like Koresh and that will be that.
