Surely it's nice to be able to see what someone has given you while they are in front of you? However, if lots of people are coming to the party you could open them later - you never know the present might be something embarrassing!

If you think that the presenter wants you to,sure, but there is no presentation ceremony like at a wedding, or a birthday. Since you are the host of your own house warming party, there really isn't time. You could open it later, as time allows, but be sure to gush over it, and tell the person you'll open it later.

Well, since most of the time gifts at a housewarming party are things like wine or plants, they shouldn't really be coming wrapped anyway. As for gifts that are wrapped, it really is bad manners to open them in front of everyone like a child at a birthday party. No, open them later, and express your gratitude in a well-written thank you note.

Absolutely! There is nothing worse than going to the trouble of picking out a gift, wrapping it and giving it to someone - who then sets if off to the side and you never get the joy of seeing them open it. When you don't open your gifts in front of the people who give them to you - you are robbing them of their joy of honoring you.

No.
It's not a birthday celebration or Christmas party. Since you might be getting alot of the same things eg. small fans, crystalware, cutlery sets, cushions, vases, your guests may be embarrassed if the presents are open and their tastes are subjected to everyone's viewing!

At least if you opened them in private, only you know about it. And what if there are REPEAT presents. Ultimate embarrassment.

In depends on the society you live in. In Arab societies such as Egypt it is not polite if you do not open them, in the States it may different. What is perceived as right and wrong things to do differs from one society to another. In one place it might be considered bad behavior while in others it is the norm.

Sure, that's part of the entertainment usually. Have some gag gifts, too!

Plus you don't let the guests in the house unless they have a gift and it's something good.
