As long as a woman remains the property of her husband, father or brother, the world will never be free from slavery. This is Sharia law in Islam.

I am a muslim and I tell you with confidence that muslim women have the least rights as compared to the non-muslim women. They are mistreated by muslim men in the name of religion. They are not even allowed to protest. Yet muslim clerics claim that no other religion has given more rights to women than islam did.

Therefore, it is not the misconception amongst the westeren countires that islam is degrading the women in every way, rather it is undenyable fact.

I am a Muslim girl from the Middle East. I am not circumcised as are none of urban girls (custom and social heritage cause it to happen in some rural areas). I completed my education till college. I travelled alone and worked abroad for several years. Currently I work in an international reputable organisation and hold a senior position. Interestingly enough, my salary is more than both the salaries of my both brothers added together! I chose to be veiled 16 years ago and have never regreted it. I have the right to choose the person I want to marry, though I have not met him yet!! Lots of my friends are married to men they love and they are all the only wives (the first and last) in their husbands' lives. The life of the couples I know is built on mutual understanding, respect, trust and love. I pray at home but some times when I need more spirituality, I go to the mosque. I have several friends and we go out together to malls and cinemas. I am not interested in driving but lots of my friends do. I am pretty independent and take my own decisions and am responsible for my own actions. What else?

There is the perception in the west that Islamic countries do not treat their women well. The life span of women in Afghanistan and Pakistan is very short compared to the rest of the world. Women are denied access to health care. In some countries, women are stoned for adultery, but not the man. Treatment of women in these countries is like treatment of women in the west some years ago. Western women are still fighting for equal rights. The ERA has not been ratified. Women still earn only 71 cents for every dollar men earn.

a woman is not property in islam... you notice that people always spread these lies with no quotes or citations.

“The believers, men and women, are Awliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another”

[al-Tawbah 9:71]

"Whoever works righteousness - whether male or female - while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)" [al-Nahl 16:97]

“And they (women) have rights (over their husbands as regards living expenses) similar (to those of their husbands) over them (as regards obedience and respect) to what is reasonable”

[al-Baqarah 2:228]

Prophet Muhammad said, “Heaven lies at the feet of a mother

i converted to Islam two years ago. one of the things that attracted me was the high regard for women as wives mothers and even business women (like Khadija, the Prophets (saw) wife)

A Muslim woman is little more than a slave. I hear that she has to be available whenever her husband demands sexual favours. As well as this, he is entitled to have more than one wife. Wives are therefore little more than an item of property. It's even worse when they have to wear dresses which reach the ground and a mask to hide their face.

Maybe not in every way, and not everywhere, but you're deluding yourself if you think it doesn't happen. The women can be killed with impunity by their relatives. Enough said.

It is not lawful for you forcibly to inherit the women (of your deceased kinsmen), nor (that) ye should put constraint upon them that ye may take away a part of that which ye have given them, unless they be guilty of flagrant lewdness. But consort with them in kindness, for if ye hate them it may happen that ye hate a thing wherein Allah hath placed much good.

1 O mankind! Be careful of your duty to your Lord Who created you from a single soul and from it created its mate and from them twain hath spread abroad a multitude of men and women. ISLAM AND WOMEN'S RIGHT TO PROPERTY
An-Nisa | 176 verses | The Women سورة النساء
Sura #4 | Madina
7 Unto the men (of a family) belongeth a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, and unto the women a share of that which parents and near kindred leave, whether it be little or much - a legal share.

32 And covet not the thing in which Allah hath made some of you excel others. Unto men a fortune from that which they have earned, and unto women a fortune from that which they have earned. (Envy not one another) but ask Allah of His bounty. Lo! Allah is ever Knower of all things.

176 They ask thee for a pronouncement. Say: Allah hath pronounced for you concerning distant kindred. If a man die childless and he have a sister, hers is half the heritage, and he would have inherited from her had she died childless. And if there be two sisters, then theirs are two-thirds of the heritage, and if they be brethren, men and women, unto the male is the equivalent of the share of two females. Allah expoundeth unto you, so that ye err not. Allah is Knower of all things.

An-Nisa | 176 verses | The Women سورة النساء
Sura #4 | Madina
11 Allah chargeth you concerning (the provision for) your children: to the male the equivalent of the portion of two females, and if there be women more than two, then theirs is two-thirds of the inheritance, and if there be one (only) then the half. And to each of his parents a sixth of the inheritance, if he have a son; and if he have no son and his parents are his heirs, then to his mother appertaineth the third; and if he have brethren, then to his mother appertaineth the sixth, after any legacy he may have bequeathed, or debt (hath been paid). Your parents and your children: Ye know not which of them is nearer unto you in usefulness. It is an injunction from Allah. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.
12 And unto you belongeth a half of that which your wives leave, if they have no child; but if they have a child then unto you the fourth of that which they leave, after any legacy they may have bequeathed, or debt (they may have contracted, hath been paid). And unto them belongeth the fourth of that which ye leave if ye have no child, but if ye have a child then the eighth of that which ye leave, after any legacy ye may have bequeathed, or debt (ye may have contracted, hath been paid). And if a man or a woman have a distant heir (having left neither parent nor child), and he (or she) have a brother or a sister (only on the mother's side) then to each of them twain (the brother and the sister) the sixth, and if they be more than two, then they shall be sharers in the third, after any legacy that may have been bequeathed or debt (contracted) not injuring (the heirs by willing away more than a third of the heritage) hath been paid. A commandment from Allah. Allah is Knower, Indulgent.
13 These are the limits (imposed by) Allah. Whoso obeyeth Allah and His messenger, He will make him enter Gardens underneath which rivers flow, where such will dwell for ever. That will be the great success.
