There is no conflict between Quran and science. Some times there seems to be one, when some fact is stated in the Quran that scientific theories are against. But the conflict is always resolved with the progress of science. It is always proven that our minds are limited and accordingly the knowledge we have is and the theories we set are. For example, scientifically, how old is the Big Bang theory? It has been mentioned in the Quran more than 1400 years ago. How old is the discovery that there is a big crack on the other side of the moon? How old is the belief that the earth must have experienced a sudden flood that caused species of plants to become extinct and changed the geography of earth? This is Noah's flood (pbuh).

Thank you

I don't know much about the Qur'an but, by the messege that the world is getting from Muslims - it is against any sort of rational thought. Let alone conciliation with science. How is it a conciliation to kill non-believers and behead those who insult islam? Maybe the book has some nice things in it but it seems that it mainly preaches "If you are a Muslim then great, if you are not then you must be killed because you are not good enough!" Yeah thats why all us non-believers live in countries like UK, USA etc and they live in sh*t holes and live like rats - if their god is so great why did he put them there and not where we are!

The Quran - as with other holy scriptures - is not a scientific text. I've never understood why Muslims use this as a point to proselytize from. True scientific tomes follow a normalized pattern - hypothesis, experimentation, observations, conclusions.

Holy books (such as the bible, quran, talmud, bhagavad gita clearly do not do anything like this.) yes, occassionally they do say things that can sometimes seem sympatico with a scientific fact (if only vaguely.) And yes, I can understand how a believer can take some comfort in that fact.

But lets face the facts - scriptures were never intended as biology or physics field guides. They're just not written that way, and arguing for their magnificence in this area is very unconvincing to somebody not already subscribing to the beliefs in question...

It is as I've pointed out before; Jonathan Swift's "Gullivers Travels" predicted the discovery of moons of Mars at very close to the apogee where two moons were actually found. This is a more specific prediction than anything you'd find in the Quran, and one borne out more accurately.

And yet, I don't feel the urge to rush out and worship horses, giants, or midgets.

I've honestly not seen any contradictions. The Quran had some things right way before science caught up - related to embryology, related to the oceans. Every Muslim is encouraged to gain knowledge from science in addition to religious knowledge.
