I think we have not learned to interpret all the depth of the bible and numbers seem to have much significance. Perhaps we are getting closer now that the bible is being broken down by computer mathmatics but we ever know all the bible, I don't think we are as smart as we think we are.

I think that it's just a significantly long time to fast in the desert. Enough to make you hallucinate for sure...you might even accidentally starve.
