Passport? Get one ASAP, make copies of the first page with your picture and info. also make a copy of the visa when you get there. I never do, I rarely have to show ID when I am there. Put your passport in the room safe or hotel safe deposit box.

Visas? If you are an US Citizen you will not need one unless you are staying longer than 30 days.

An inflatable pillow helps sleep on the plane.
A small bottle of water to wet your throat between meals on the plane. You can always get a glass from the flight attendants.
Wear loose clothing but, don't dress like a American tourist. Asian tourists dress up more than Americans. You will get treated like a business person if you do.
With the current rules, I guess you can still take a toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry-on. That helps just before you deplane to clean your mouth out.
Carry whatever you feel would freshen you up just before you land if you can take it on or in your bag just before you leave the airport.

Basic check in, is to fillout the immigration card for Thai authorities on the plane, deplane, see a Thai immigration officer, have a picture taken, and then go pick up your baggage, then pass by the customs officer if there is one. You are now in Bangkok.

There are Money exchange kiosk in the airport. They are mostly the better rates. You should exchange the money you need immediately. If you are traveling beyond Bangkok. Either change all your money you expect to use or most of it. The exchange rate in Bangkok is usually not as good. Except sometimes at the Exchange kiosks in MBK center or Mah Boon Khram center in Pratunam district.

Being a woman, you will probably be carrying these anyway. Have a supply of facial tissue or sanitary wipes with you. Not all the public restrooms supply toilet paper nor paper towels. And sometimes the restaurants don't supply napkins.

It's been warm and raining recently, which mean warm and humid. Cotton clothing and dress in layers, the layering helps wick the persperation. A hat might be good for the rain and the sun. Though it may be overcast there. Suntan lotion just in case. Some good walking shoes both casual and dress. Of course depending on what you are doing.

If you are staying in Bangkok, take a taxi from the taxi stand. From the new Suvarnabhumi airport, I am not sure of the charges from there maybe around 200 baht. If you want a little more luxury, there are sedans that can cost from 800 Baht to 1000 baht depending on where you are staying. Or you can contact your hotel and ask to have their car pick you up. This may cost 600 to 800 baht. While traveling around Bangkok consider taking the subway and Skytrain. Cheap, clean and safe. The subway charges like 7 baht per station and the Skytrain you can get a 100 baht card for the day, go anywhere along either routes, all day.

How you dress is how you are treated there? Pretty important.

You should read about their customs. see www.Thailandguru.com for info.

Good luck and good trip.

What I'd take is any prescription medicine required for the duration of my stay.If you've never flown before ask the pharmacist for some travel sickness pills.Of course take your own toiletries. If your plannig to take any electrical equipment, like travelling iron, hairdryer or any other electrical appliance you should buy an electric plug adapter. The voltage may be different to your home country, even the prongs to connect your appliances to the power outlet may be different. The weather will be pretty warm so I suggest you wear loose fitting comfortable clothes. Also I'd plan on buying most of my wearing apparel there as thialand is fairly inexpensive.Provided your paper work is up to date(passport, visa, health certificates)you'll have no worries on arrival.May I just add that for the same reasons it is not advisable to bring goods out of thialand for the same reasons ie different prongs and voltage.Other than that bon voyage.Good luck

Hi !! Great choice of destination so I know you will be fine - Thai people are friendly and helpful and the airlines will be as well - - there is alot of good advice above, but you will find travel here easy and user friendly and if you forget anyhting you can most likely buy it here...

The only thing I would add is that Thai people love a smile - - smile on first meeting and you will make friends and be treated well.. have a great time!!

Do it--travel and see the world. So much more than where you live going on. Wonderful, Interesting people to meet and greet and learn from. Remember, in a different country you are a guest and others do things different that you are use to. Learn from others. There's many more ways to do everything in the world. You may have one way, your way but NOT the only way. All people in the world want pretty much the same things,,,,peace, happiness, health, to be content, have friends, to learn---the list goes on and on. We are so much more alike than we are different. Relax, enjoy, learn....Open your eyes, ears, heart and mind much more than your mouth and you will discover a wonderful exciting beautiful world of interesting and kind people. Enjoy life--travel the world.

The rainy season is ending in early Nov. So you can expect hot and humid weather, or a rainy day when you are there. So do dress light and with a light windbreaker with you. Otherwise, you should be enjoying your stay there. Guess you will have some friends and/or colleagues with you, they will help you out easily. Have fun and smile, you are in the country of smiles.

Before any first trip, its always wise to do alot of research first. You need to understand their culture & traditions, social conditions, political situation etc. Checking in procedure is least the problem. There are signboards to show you around. If unsure always ask.

whilst traveling yet another usa to adventure that usa, i could attempt to maintain on with their customs or a minimum of not bypass immediately against them the suited i ought to as long as i became not ethically against it. to illustrate, if it may be large offense to speak to a male immediately, i could use that coworker. whether, if say, men weren't allowed to speak to women people immediately, i could enable them to renowned that i became happy with them chatting with me in the event that they needed by way of fact i would not prefer to be the "oppressor". whether, i think of it is likewise clever to take area in communities that are traveling those international places to extremely communicate selection procedures of residing. In those cases, i could prefer to be an element to a team who's intentions are clean so as that we at the instant are not offending somebody on an identical time as attempting to habit different non-suitable corporation.
