" Recorded religions are mere heaps of verbiage. Religions show their true face in action, in silent action. To know what man believes, watch how he acts. For most of the people service of their bodies and their minds is their religion. They may have religious ideas, but they do not act on them. They play with them, they are often very fond of them, but they will not act on them. "

I think you are using a single person's statement to generalize all Christians

True, some talk the talk but don't walk the walk

Also true among atheists..example, many, not all, but many use God's name to damn anything or anybody. That confuses me. They use a name that they believe does not exist.
Also, I have known two atheist in my lifetime, Both came down with serious illness and in their last weeks both called out to God . I found this to be not only very interesting, but also very encouraging\

Anyway, my point it.....you can't generalize all people of a group according to the actions of a few

Yes I think that is a very acurate description. Religion throughout the ages has changed to accommodate what we want to believe in the here and now. The primary purpose is to help ourselves - but some do this in the hope to help others, but I beleive the majority have a religious belief to help get them through life - one way or the other. To have a deep religious beleif you would have to be very devoted to follow its teachings wholeheartedly. I think most take what they can from religion - that is what is relevant and positive for their circumstances... But still call themselves religious.

Undeniably true. Many religionists are too steeped in meaningless dogma to worry about the moral precepts on which their faith is founded.
