Hi as everyone says brush the dog as much as you can, try and put some cod liver oil in it's food and beat up eggs and milk this will help the grow back thicker and give it a good shine,

Hi,
Although shaving it would stop the moulting i agree it would look a little silly. :-)
The main thing with German Shepard's coats are that they come in two stages really. the longer fine hair on the top and the fluffy hair underneath. About this time each year and again in the spring you will notice it falling out more.

Best advice is to take it to a good dog groomers for a bath and blast. (Blast is the term used for a strong blow dryer it is very affective on removing dead coat. It literally blasts it out so there is far less to groom out. You will never be able to remove it all even if you brushed it all day everyday. And I am sure that's about what you are doing Now :-) But with the help of a groomer which you should pay no more than £30 for once every 6 to 8 weeks it will be almost gone. You will still need to brush it in between but it will be a quick once over instead of an intense messy session.
Hope this helps. I groom loads of Shepard's and I am sure they say thank you after I have finished..
Good luck in finding the perfect groomer in your area. It really will solve your problem and give the dog added excitement to his daily routine too. Bit like a spa or hair cut for us.
Michelle :-)

brush it. Why do people demand 'remedies' for things that is perfectly normal and natural. Any living creature which has hair, looses the hair and grows new hair. Your German Shepherd has a double coat, so you need to train it to lat on it's side, then with a long toothed steel dog comb, start at the head and neck, and comb right down to the skin working your way back. At the same time check the skin for condition, fleas, lice etc. When you have done one side, turn the dog over and to the other side. With a heavy coated breed, this should be part of your normal routine at least twice a week and is good practice so that you can check his skin, nails, ears, etc.

Friendly Hello, Constant grooming. I would recommend getting hold of some good grooming equipment dryer. Set up out side. Give your dog a really good bath and blow dry the hair off with a high power grooming dryer and brush. Blessings, Kelly

Usually, that is too long for me. I think it depends on the guy and his face though. Certain guys may pull off long hair and other folks can't.

i had a german shepard, called storm, she was soooooooooooo lovely. she was a long haird one, i would die for her, i love her to bits. But back to the question, well i tried and tried to minimise the amount of hair i found all around my flat, but there aint a "cure", all you gotta do is brush him/her everyday in the morning and in the night. it will help but it wont completly make it better. thats my only adivce sorry.

My german shepherd does this - I was told it was because he is getting rid of his summer coat and growing his winter one. I took mine to the groomers and they seem to have sorted it out! But it shouldn't be long now!!!
