Parting would always hurt no matter what you say, but saying nothing and just leaving would be devastating. Tell him the truth. Hug him. Let him come to the airport to see you off and wish you good bye. If you'd like to keep in touch, give him your email address. It's not the same and in time you could loose contact, but at the moment... in that time and space... the hurt will be lessened.

...how long have you known this guy?! if you're going "home to America", you can't have known him that long, it would seem to me. But I'm not saying you don't love him! *feels bad* Tell him that you don't want to go, that you love him, but that you have to, and tell him why. I think that's the only way to tell him without causing more grief than necessary. If he loves you back, he'll understand, and hopefully he'll come up with a way for you two to be together still

We all need to love and to be loved.
Most of our issues could be solved fairly easily, if we have our loved one supporting us.
If you are hurt by a former ex, well you just need to get yourself up and start searching for someone who deserves your love.
Don't ever be shy .. that won't ever help you .. and you'll have lots to lose. Do what your heart tells you it's right.
