Well as you have already paid for the Guitar I would do one of three things.
1. Go to the shop and get my money back as you never got the product.
2. Go to the courier and try to track where they sent it and make them go and retrieve it for you.
3. Just wait for them to straighten it out.
Now me I would do number 1 and before you do that make sure it is not your error for the address mix up. I mean make sure you did give them your correct address.

The responsibility of the parcel is down the the guitar company as they use the courier service to deliver their goods, therefore they should have stipulations in place to ensure anything delivered requires a signature from the household named on the parcel so therefore it is no responsibility of yours if delivered to an incorrect address.
On the other hand if the guitar company have given the incorrect address in the first place they will need to indemnify you either with the guitar or your money back.
I would also ask them for some compensation due to the fact you have had to wait, they may give you 10% or something?
Have a look at the Sale and Supply Goods Act 1994 or Sale or Supply of Good to Consumers Regulations 2002.

It's down to the shop to sort this out for you. The contract is between the shop and the courier company. Normally the shop would either send you a replacement item or refund your money including delivery charges. The shop would then make a claim against the courier company for compensation as they made the mistake.
Contact the shop again to find out what is going on and ask for either a replacement guitar or your money back.

The customer is the person who pays them - most likely the guitar shop. You probably paid an extra fee for delivery, TO the guitar shop, and then the guitar shop pays the courier. That makes the guitar shop the customer.

the guitar shop, and the courier service compensation will probably only be for double money back on delivery charge, so they will have to claim for lost parcel against own insurance.
eithyer way, you bought something you didnt get. so your covered, doubly so if you paid on credit card

I would guess its the shops responsibility to chase it up (legally they have made a 'contract' with the courier firm to deliver the item, which they have not done).
Contact the shop and get them to contact them again.

You can claim it, If you put insurance on it, which I believe you probably have, I wish you lots of luck and I hope it all turns out well in your favor..
I would also like to believe there are still a few of honest people out there in this world, lets hope they have a good heart and return it to the Courier to rectify this situation.

I'm sure that the driver didn't check the ID of the person that signed for the package. I think you'd have a case if you are listed as the only person that can sign for the delivery. I know that USPS asks for ID. I don't know about UPS. My mortgage documents were misdelivered by FedEx last year. After they tracked them down I started to get other peoples documents! I will never use Fed Ex and ask that people sending things to me don't either.

You are not the courier companies client. The shop is, so it is their responsabilty. It would have been covered by insurance, so don't let them give you any bullsh*t about extra costs. Just keep driving them MAD!
