'Smoothies' are yet another typical example of "you CAN eat/drink healthier if you CAN afford to. Organic foods are the same, especially organic meat. That low cholesterol flora spread, as advertised by Steve Redgrave, that's about £3 a tub. 'Benecol' (good) bacteria drinks, again, really good for a healthy diet but so over-priced. There's so much more good foods out there, but they're all pretty well expensive.
I'll just have to remain unhealthy because I'm on a low-income.

I always thought so until I started making my own!! I was spending mega bucks on fruit, milk and youghurt then I had to peel, chop, clean up and afterwards. It all seemed a bit like hard work but at least I was 100% sure of what was going into it. Sometimes a couple of £ is worth it just for convience, you would want to spend it every single day tho. You'd think with the popularity of smoothies these days the price would be dropping.

If you buy the Innocent Smoothies book, it actually gives you the recipies to several of the smoothies it sells in the supermarket, saving you lots of money! But if i'm on the go, and haven't eaten very healthily that day, they're still good - fill you up just as much as a cake and you feel all virtuous.

there are other smoothies called I Am Pure, that are even more expensive than Innocent.

For what it's worth, if you look at the ingredients, you're getting quite a lot. Eg. Blackberries and Blueberries flavour.

1/2 banana, 2 apples, 12 blackberried, 108!!!!! blueberries. Last time I looked a punnet of blueberries (100ish blueberries) cost more than an innocent smoothie.

YES They are extremely over priced for a tiny amount. It's like those Danone Actimil or whatever-they're-called. One sip and they are gone.

Makes more sense to buy your own fruit. Fruit is cheap and Innocent use orange juice in most of their drinks. Cheap skates!

I know!!! so bloody expensive, the people who came up with the price should be shot... I bought a little bottle for just over £2....I probably could have bough a big carton for less than that!!! but I was pregnant and had a craving - it was a life and death situation and I managed to force the money out of my purse to purchase the over priced mushed up fruit but soooooooooo definatly worth it... :)

Yes I do. So I saved up and bought a blender and now I make my own. I get some frozen fruit from somewhere like Tesco (or normal fruit which I dice) throw it together in the blender and add either apple/orange or some other fruit juice and blend.

Hey presto a cheaper version and you know what's in it.

Yes I do!
Ridiculously high prized
Because they are "in"!
I make them at home for a fraction of the prize.
And by experimenting with the ingredients you come up with new great tastes.

How much are you paying???
They're about €5 (£2.20)in Ireland which is not bad considering that a packet of strawberries costs about €3.50 not to mention any other fruit.
