Please keep this question up. I'm researching the answer, as much as I can.
People, please withhold judgement until I return!
Okay, the earliest known manuscript of the Bible was made of papyrus. It dates back to 2400 BC, but it was copied from older manuscripts. The Torah was kept in one place, in the Temple. Every few years, scribes would recopy it, and destroy the old copies.
Other materials used were parchment, vellum, ostraca (unglazed pottery), clay tablets, and wax tablets.
Writing materials used were a chisel, a metal stylus, a pen formed from rushes (they used a charcoal, gum and water compound to make the ink).
The New Testament started to circulate pretty much as soon as it was written; the earliest books were written between 40 AD and 100 AD.
About 20 years after the last books in the New Testament were written was when councils began to meet in order to decide which books would be in the Bible. Right before that, an order came down that all manuscipts of the Bible were to be destroyed, and all who claimed to be Christians were to be executed.
As for the Koran:

I didn't include everything about the Bible, but if you would like to know more, I got my information from the book Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell.

The Bible and the Quran are physical manifestations of revelations sent to Jesus and Mohammad. The initial revelations contained messages from God to preach to the community. The Book were first written on goat skin or date branches and were gradually transribed to paper or papyrus form. A notable distinction between the 2 books is that as of now there are multiple versions of the Bible whereas for the Quran that is only one known version. Both books however derived from the same vein.

The Bible : Over a period of man's existance, God has spoken to men. Then about 4000 years ago, He spoke to Moses, and he wrote down everything God said (the histories and laws were most likely on parchment, the Ten Commandments were in stone, initially by God's finger itself, then later, remade by Moses). The Hebrews/Jews recognized what God did for them in Egypt, and then heeded prophets. The Prophets made sure what they said was written down, so that God's words would be remembered by all Jews. Then about 2000 years ago, Jesus Christ lived, and his biography is written by two of his Apostles (those who seen Jesus in his resurrected form), and by two disciples (students) of his Apostles. Then about 33 years later, Jesus' biography (the Gospels) end, and books are written about the Apostles lives and the early Church. Much of the rest of the bible are letters from an Apostle to a church, or from an Apostle to a friend of theirs. The Bible ends with noting that the last of the Apostles was exiled on an island, and there he received a vision from Christ about the end days.
In the Old Testament, each book would be written on scrolls, and with each new prophet God sent, their words would be added as a new book within the Bible. In the New Testament, those who knew that Jesus was indeed the Saviour of mankind added the Gospels along with the Old Testament. As churches were formed, letters would be written to those churches. As time progressed, those churches would share what letters they had, so that everyone had a fuller understanding of what the Apostles were saying. After at most 75 years, all the initial churches had the Bible as we know it (and one additional letter to the Corinthians, but that one no longer existed by the time of the Council of Nicea). At about 300AD, at the Council of Nicea, the 'canon' (or, books of the Bible that were recognized to be true) was declared, so that it would be official : since there was no more need for any more prophets, the Bible would not need the writings of anyone else.
The Bible was primarily written on parchment, and most likely written with charcoal ink (although I am not certain about the ink).
The Koran : The Archangel Gabriel gave it to Muhammed in its complete form, as physically written by Allah. A side book, the Hadith, are a record of Muhammed's life, his deeds, and his teachings.

As for the Bible, it is called Injeel in arabic. We believe the true Injeel is not yet available, cos it has been corrupted by human hand and idea with the passing of time.

i dont know much abt bible but the quran contain the words of mohammed, not god. as a former muslim, i know islam through and through and studied it carefully, there are so many errors in the quran, and so many interpretations of things, and mohammed's life was a joke. if it were really the words of god then there would be 1 interpretation, not one 4 me and 1 for bin laden. mohammed is sooooooo not the chosen one.
