I'm not sure what you mean by them working. If you mean do they accurately answer the question asked, then not always and in alot of cases they don't. But that doesn't mean they don't work. The cards are simply a guide as to what will happen if you follow one path or another. Each action has a reaction and there is no way to predict the outcome because of all the possibilities involved.
The cards do latch on to a question or issue that is most pressing to the questioner (the reader's client, if you're not doing this with your own deck). They do their best to answer that question, which often times is not what the original inquiry was, while taking into account that there are many possible outcomes and none are set in stone. I've given and received readings that were dead-on accurate and others that didn't make any sense at all and had nothing to do with the original question asked.
For the record, it is not possible for them to attract demons like you would with a Ouija board.
