U.K. children learn "scissors, paper, stone " in the playground at junior school.( 1976- before animes I think!)
We played best of 3 usually.
Great game-no equipment necessary and teaches assessing opponent and tactics.
Has been around a very long time (1000's of years) hasn't it?

Almost everyone knows Rock, Paper, Scissors (by that name). If I didnt have a Japanese teacher back in the 5th grade, I wouldn't have known is was called Janken.
Names and items used vary all over the world (see link).

yeah, everyone knows the game but i don't know anything about Japan but i have a semi-japanese friend who speaks fluent Japanese. I say semi because she's born in england and is British but her Japanese is better than her english.

Moshi moshi! Yes, that game is really popular here - but I have never heard about it being spread through anime before - sounds likely!

That's a very common game, in Spain we also play it, I think my father played it, and he was born in 1939... I can swear that he has never seen anime :)
