You can travel within the UK without a passport and you can travel between Northern Ireland and Eire without a passport if going overland.

I understand that you should also be able to travel by air between Eire and the UK without a passport but given the tightening of airport security and getting an idiot at the airport, I'd fly with a passport.

Depends on how you are crossing the border between Northern Ireland & Eire!!! I live in Northern Ireland & have NEVER had my passport or identification checked crossing the border by road/rail. I coross the border at least 10 times a year. I would recommend a passport for flying though.

No, Eire (Ireland) is a different country from the United Kingdom. Besides I think that probably the trip from Scotland to Northern Ireland (crossing a sea) requires some sort of identification.

Not as far i as i kn ow babe. The boats have started asking for photographic id now, you might get away with a drivers license though. Once in northern ireland you can get the train to eire without passport.. hope this helps x

Eire, Southern Ireland is a different country not part of the UK so u would need a passport for Eire.

Eire is outside the UK so I can't see anyone letting you do the last leg of your journey, even if you could find a way to do the rest. Contact the airline you intend to use and they will enlighten you I'm sure.

Passport not required. But why would you want to go back to Scotland?

It depends on the airline. My husband was allowed to do this as long as he had photo ID, such as a driving licence. However it is solely on the discretion of the airline.
