Not only in the UK but also in Australia. Fanny is a slang word for a female's private parts in the UK and in Australia where as in the US it means your buttocks. This is why you will find that we sometimes grimace or smile when American's use the word.

It does mean 'butt" or "bum" in the US.. but, no-one uses it. I haven't heard that term used in decades.
