Wow...that's such a negative view of English people in general! You can't steriotype people and expect a good answer. First, don't use "Coronation Street" as your sample of the British. Yes, many like their beer and corner pubs are community gathering places but I've seen the same in Detroit and New York. As for negative lifestyle and attitude...it all depends on who you've been approached by. Try living on an island 1/3 the size of Alberta with 65 million people crammed wall to wall and see how happy you could be...many are leaving because of that reason and all that I've met (except my mother-in-law) are very nice!

well it is not totally false that English people drink to much.
think logically about the climate of the England
as you might be knowing it is very chilly most of the time and because of this to maintain the warmth of there body one good reason is to drink.
and those who drink do not have everything under there order and it is very common to have a negative lifestyle to a certain extent.

cause english people are bred into the drinking lifestyle all thanks to beer commercials and the emphasis that your not cool if your not drinking at a party.They have negative lifestyle because the expectations that society has of what a successful person is can be overwhelming.Sometimes people feel they can't be that good, and they say to themselves "**** it" and they go around doing **** jobs and just doing what they can to get fun out of their dull life.
