Go to Asia - Thailand, Bali or Malaysia. On that budget, you could even do all three.

In Thailand, I'd avoid Pattaya, but Koh Samui, Phuket, Hua Hin and Cha Am are fab for beach hols. Otherwise, Chiang Mai in the north of the country is stunning. I recently stayed at the Chedi there and it was one of the best hotels I've ever been to.

In Malaysia, Langkawi is beautiful - try the Pelangi Beach, Bon Ton, the Holiday Villas. If you want somewhere really special the Datai and the Andaman are spectacular, as is the new Four Seasons and Tanjung Rhu.

In Bali, Ubud is in the centre of the island and it's really special. Try the Kupu Kupu Barong or the Four Seasons. Otherwise, look at Nusa Dua - most of the major resort hotels are based in this area. It is a little characterless though. Otherwise, the Oberoi is really gorgeous.

Try a city break in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore first. There's plenty to do and see, and some fabulous hotels. If you tie the whole package together as a tailormade holiday, you'll find that the flights can be considerably cheaper. Look at Flightbookers, Travelbag, Trailfinders and Bridge the World - they have some very good flight contracts.

You will get an AWFUL lot more for your money in Asia. Hotels are fantastic and much cheaper than Europe or the USA.

Rent a cabin close to the middle of nowhere
Cook him is favorite meals
Buy the favorite lil girlie nighties that would appeal to him
Pamper him... pamper him... pamper him

With the funds that are actually left over... get home and surprise him with a new *something or other* that he's been wanting for so long but too many arguements about it.

That... is a fantastic holiday for a guy. Oh... and no nagging. LOL they don't like that. Saves money for the best surprise... and way within budget.

Have a look at the Kuoni brochure - i'd highly recommend them. Last year we did 3 weeks with Kuoni to Singapore, Hong Kong, Bali, and Thailand and it came in at just under £3k. There are lots of other destinations and itineries - the hotels are high quality, and you get support from Kuoni without it feeling like a mass market package holiday - transfers in private cars, not buses, etc. Give it a go!

Would depend entirely on what type of vacation-people you are :-) But Mauritius has come highly recommended to me for a relaxing holiday. Perhaps the Alps for skiing - or if you want to go more for cross-country skiing, you could go to Norway, possibly renting a cabin for a nice, private, secluded feel. Or my personal favorite right now - go to the carneval in Venice, colors, people, fun.

How about a skiing / winter holiday in Austria? Tirol, Salzburg and Carinthia would be the best to go:
