You cant fake it and the reason you cant is simple--blood work. Even if you could manage to mimic the pain in just the right area, you can not fake the elevated white cell count of the blood work that is naturally done.

This is how I should answer your question....

You suffer from chrones and now want your appendix out even though it is not obviously causing you any pain.

Why.

But what I really want to say is:-

Gosh, how exciting the thought of another operation...does your heart pound at the thought of being given all the care and attention that will be lavished on you..the warmth and satisfaction you will feel with all of the painkillers....

Was it really good when you had your last two operations....did you feel very important.

Why not take a trip to the doctors and explain that you suffer with a pain that cannot be relieved and that a friend told you that it is called Munchhausen...then go onto explain the pain intense and throbbing on your right side started in the middle now so painfull, you cannot stop being sick..high temperature and increased white cell count that you are experiencing.

This will open doors that you never expected and you will get the help you so justly need.

They will not think you suffer from chrons decease anymore and treat you accordingly.

You can't fake it. When you present to the Er the MD will do a physical exam and then draw labs to confirm or rule out the appendix. If you are not having trouble with the appendix then no doctor will schedule an elective appendectomy. There are studies being conducted for Crohn's Disease treatment with a medication called Abatacept. It is an infusable medication. I work for a Research Company and we are getting ready to enroll for that same study. Go online to find out if there are any studies for Crohn's in your area. Go to medicaltrials.com or centerwatch.com.

Good luck faking. Doctors go to school for 20+ years - they are pretty darn smart. Also, not really sure what "chrones" is?

You can not fake appendicitis, the final determination on this is through a blood test that checks your white blood cell count. You can fake abdominal pain, but do you really want to be seen as a hypochondriac by your local hospital?

your original question, while sounding like you're mentally ill, probably is an indication of how desperate you are to try and get rid of the pain you are living with.

first of all, talk to your doctor about your pain. ask if you can be referred to a pain specialist.

second of all, call your local hospital or clinics, or ask your doctor, for a chronic pain support group. it will be a source of both information and emotional support for you.

third of all, look for a newsgroup specifically for crohn's disease and/or chronic pain. these are wonderful online sources of contact with others experiencing the same difficulties as you. newsgroups can really help us out in ways our regular social contacts can't.

lastly, consider contacting a mental health professional. if you don't have one of your own, your county social services might be able to help you out. you are teetering on the edge of a major imbalance here... seeking out surgery and ways of defrauding the medical profession aren't mentally healthy.

in response to an earlier poster, seeking the caring and help one gets from medical staff in the hospital aren't sick. it is a human need, compounded by desperation from chronic pain. i'm guessing that her previous abdominal surgery might be the source of the pain, not a symptom of her mental state. but we can't know.
