Because , that would be admitting defeat in this rediculous "War on Drugs". Those pin heads would have about as much success if they had a "War on Redheads".As long as the "War" is still alive...they'll be casualities which politicians use to their advantage to get votes which translates into M.O.N.E.Y. Also , this war produces addictions , that need to be treated...with a lot of pharmaceutical drugs and that spells C.A.S.H.Society needs this war. Towns got to their rep and the rep to the congressman and he to the Senetor which panhandles the House but of course they are busy dealing with the president who is asking for...you got it C.U.R.R.E.N.C.Y. And let us not forget about the soldiers in this war that are incorrigable and become institutionalized. We have become so terrified of people that Jails have one purpose ONLY ! That is "lock 'em up and throw away the key...we don't care how much it costs. Unfortunately, someone heard that last part and it is now , quite profitable to hold an inmate in custody for as little as a minute longer than is necessary in order to keep their population roster "always full" because when Uncle Sam gets out his check book to show his gratitude to those states with the highest head count, he lists it as G.O.V.E.R.N.M.E.N.T. F.U.N.D.S.

And so , although the taxes collected through the legalization process would be quite hefty , it wouldn't be profitable enough. The War on Drugs is the corporate figurehead to some of the biggest money making businesses known. (1) Politics (2) Pills & (3) Prisons. The only one missing is weapons manufacturing. No , this is a war. Rest assured those heathens are there somewhere....waiting , like a snake in the grass.

Conservative voter backlash. Next election, it becomes a platform upon which voters decide and pro-marijuana governments are out.

Of course, a number of governments around the world (national, state and local) have de-criminalised smoking of marijuana (predominantly for medical purposes but there are other reasons) so the question is difficult to accurately answer.

people need to go back and look at why hemp was made illegal to start with. the original reason was to protect a patient issued to the DuPont company for the manufacturing of hemp cloth used by the military. blah blah blah and it just stuck. now in is a so called moral issue that has little if no foundation. the health issue and moral issues will not wash if that was the case tobacco and alcohol would be outlawed. the only reason i can really come up with is that it will grow in all 50 states very easily and would be imposable to tax unlike tobacco and alcohol. of course people will say you can make cigarettes and alcohol at home to and for some that is true but tobacco will not grow very easily in certain climates and making alcohol is a pain in the butt.
