Damn right I am against ! Mr Blair has already announced NO amnesty for Illegal Immigrants!!It would reward people who had claimed that they were the victims of political persecution when, in fact, they were economic migrants. Also there would be objections from other EU countries because, once the illegals were allowed to stay in Britain, they would be free to travel and settle throughout the union.
It would be an active incentive for people to come here illegally,at a time when Immigration is at its highest level!!!With our borders so badly protected, even speculating about an amnesty is highly irresponsible. An amnesty could lead to a massive, uncontrolled increase in the numbers coming here.!!
Even Sir Andrew Green, the chairman of Migrationwatch UK said: "This is thoroughly irresponsible. It is not a change of thinking; it is an absence of thinking!!!!

An amnesty is no good - we as a country are being crippled by the amount of immigrants in our benefits system and using the NHS without ever having contributed anything towards the funding. As a result our pensioners etc are suffering. We are a little island and our numbers need reducing and the only way is to stop any more immigrants entering and returning the illegal ones to where they came from.

I understand the underlying reasons to suggest an amnesty for illegal immigrants; however there are problems with this;
1. It will encourage people to abuse the status to avoid legitimate imigration in the future.
2. We are an extremely overcrowded in this country with finite resources - Thames water has said there are so many people living around London they are at crisis point.
3. If everybody who wants to come to the UK came we certainly wouldn't be able to swing a cat.
4. It would encourage people smuggling (where more people die than would have had they stayed in the countries they claim refuge from).
5. People trafficing would be made easier.

I am in favour of an amnesty for illegal immigants in the UK. Spain have very sensibly dealt with this problem by doing just that.
We have a big problem here in UK and elsewhere in the EU. It is due to our ageing population - we're all getting older and staying around much longer than we used to and we're not having as many babies as we used to.
From a political point of view, we must fill the baby gap by the quickest means available to us and that is by immigration.
I am not sure of the EU estimates for the requirement of immigrants to fill the gap but it runs into many millions.
The UK economy is booming - we're one of the biggest construction sites in the world. We can afford to suck in skilled labour from Eastern Europe by the trainload, including Romanians et al when they join EU.

I am totally against any sort of amnesty being shown to illegal immigrants. If they are here illegally then they should be shipped out immediately they are caught preferably at the expense of the airline or shipping company that brought them in. If their means of entry is unkown and their nationality cannot be deduced then that is another can of worms to which I have no really constructive remedy.

So anyone who gets here and manages to hide from the government (not hard, I would think) for a couple of years, can get amnesty and stay here? that's bad enough, then they bring in wive(S) sons, daughters and cousins etc so for the price of 1 we get about 15? Do you think Australia or anywhere else would stand for it? We are the suckers, we pay out and get nothing back, becuase any money they make, they send back to their own country! The italians do it, the indians/pakistanis do it, and now the polish etc do it! Work for cash, pay no tax - just call them all gypies!!

Amnesty doesn't help the problem of illegal immigrants it simply sets what future "illegals" will see as a precedent and gives them false hope. I agree with immigration but it has to be controlled and if someone doesn't meet the criteria we set then although it seems harsh they need to be sent back quickly to discourage others.

It depends.
It is too broad a question.
Some illegal immigrants, with family, connections, a good record, and employment should be allowed to stay if they register with the police and apply for residency.
Others should be arrested and deported if they are enaged in criminal activity, have no connections, no family, and are without employment.
It all depends on circumstances and should be treated on a case by case basis.

Immigration needs to be planned and controlled. An amnesty sends all the wrong signals to any potential future illegal immigrants.
I am not a right winger, but, Illegals who are found need to be deported.
We need to uphold the law.....and we need to be SEEN to uphold the law

Get rid of all illegals and foreign prisoners and then close our borders.
Sort out crime, health service, education and welfare state reforms, homelessness and poverty, pensions; then when we have our own house in order we can starting accepting applications from foreign nationals who want to come to UK.
We are in the **** and sinking at present, something drastic and hardline has to be done to start the changes that are desperately needed to improve this country.
