Because many of these countries have contracted the christ virus and there is no escape .
CHRISTIANITY= VIRUS OF THE MIND

Christianity is basically nothing more than an extremely efficient virus of the mind.

Since they emanate from humans and therefore have an organic component, all ideas have a survival instinct just like their human progenitors, and will seek to propagate themselves into as many human hosts as possible. Now of course some ideas are beneficial to their human hosts, but not all.

Christianity is one of those malignant versions. Of course, the long-term life expectancy of its human hosts is beneficial to the Christian mind virus since it allows more propagation, but ultimately the survival of its human hosts is irrelevant, as demonstrated throughout history in wars with competing religious viral "memes" (ideas).

Need proof? Just look at the evangelical nature of Christianity. Christianity drives its adherents to "spread the word" through human-to-human contact...just like a virus spreads.

And what is a "word" anyway? Nothing more than the spoken or written expression of an IDEA. The Christian Bible even ADMITS that God is nothing more than an IDEA..."In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD WAS GOD", remember?

Need more proof? Ever wonder why the Catholic Church opposes birth control and abortion? It's not because abortion is murder, because throughout history the Catholic Church has either endorsed murder (Crusades, Inquisition) or turned a blind eye to it (Holocaust).

No, it's because THE MORE UNEDUCATED, POOR, IGNORANT SOULS THAT ARE BORN INTO POVERTY AND MISERY ON THIS PLANET, THE GREATER THE CHRISTIAN MIND VIRUS' CHANCES OF SURVIVAL.

Majority of the South American countries are Roman Catholic (RC).

It is an observable fact that any Roman Catholic-controlled country has a very high poverty rate. That fact is not just seen in South America but in any part of the world (the Philippines, Mexico, etc.).

Now, some RC Christians (RCCs) would claim that's false because the true answer for poverty in South America et al are the corrupt officials who govern it. That is partially true, however the RCCs forget (or rather deny) the fact that these corrupt government officials are also RCCs and they give generous contributions to the RC Church (money which they stole from the people).

The Church knows it has received money stolen from the people but they are more concerned about solidifying their relations with the corrupt government leaders thereby securing the Church's hold in that country. The Church also has interests which are favorable for those corrupt officials as well. That is why the Church is not harmed in any way, shape or form by the government.

So, the people here get screwed by both their leaders and their priests.

What is your point and what are you trying to say?? Poverty could happen to anyone, any country. Talking about Corruption, just because a country is under a dictatorship, which means ruled by a few, that doesn't mean all of its citizens are corrupt like that. Do you think people like to live under dictatorship? It's those few political leaders that are corrupt, get your fact straight and stop shifting the whole blame to the people. For example, just because Chile or Cuba has dictators as their leaders, that the government is corrupt, not the citizens within the country is corrupt. And I don't understand about the christian thing... what does that have to do with poverty and corrupt???

Most developing or so-called "third world" economies have a lot of corruption. They lack the resources necessary to develop a sound infrastructure, and so it becomes a vicious cycle.

And I don't understand the relevance of the "South America has many Christians" part of your question. Christians can lie, cheat and steal with the best of them.

Believe it or not, poverty in the American South is still linked to the outcome of the Civil War. Following the failure of the Confederacy and loss of the war, southern states faced extreme damage to infrastructure, failure of major economic engines, and substantial loss to the workforce. Combine this with reparation payments to northern states and you have a dire financial situation. While southern states invested in regrowing their economies, the northern states continued to develop as well. Since the North was in a better situation than the South after the war, the southern states have still not caught up and that is evidenced by poverty rates even today.

Those who are lost in the darkness, see the light with greater clarity. For the more one is forgiven, the more he is thankful for. and for these poverty stricken nations, they are humble and they love the lord Jesus Christ, I tell you they are richer than we can ever hope to be. For comforts causes complacency and complacency leads to blindness, and those who are blind can not see the light. Those plunderers and murderers are going to heaven for they have forsaken their evil ways and are forgiven by the blood of the lamb, so what of yourself. Do you have any right to judge them, they may have been murderers and plunderers but they are forgiven and the lord remembers their sins no more, you are not. though you may consider yourself a good person but you are still not good enough for you deny the lord, those poor and evil people have not, they have seen the light, when darkness surrounds them like the sea.

We're poor because of our political leaders, and because of the International Monetary Fund. Of course the church has helped, by looking the other way (and in more 'active' ways, too). But it's politicians who have done the greatest part. And mind you, I'm definitely not a Christian, but I can't blame them for what others have done.

Um...last I heard S. America was primarily Catholic, not Christian. Have you seen the Catholic churches in not only S. America but Mexico as well? The people may be starving but they sure have pretty, shiny gold churches & lots of statues (shrines) to the Virgin Mary. They are suffering because they follow a false religion - not Christianity.

I think there is a strong relationship between the Rio Carnival and Catholicism. It is their annual 'letting loose', if you will. It is well-documented that Catholics are the majority of the religious in South America.

That is a very one sided question. Poverty is world wide. The US just happens to be the wealthiest nation. Do you think we are not also corrupt?
