I am going to the north-eastern part of India for the first time to meet husband's family. I would like to bring a gift for the young lady (age 16-17) who works in his parents' home.
My husband suggests I should get something special that she wouldn't be able to find in India (and yes, I am aware that in the bigger cities like Mumbai, you can purchase most of the things like we have in the US, but this young lady lives in far from the cities).
I want to give her something she'll love, but I just don't know what! Clothing and/or jewellery probably won't work because the tastes are far too different here and there.
Desi girls, please help me out! This young lady is so sweet, I really want to bring her something that she'll enjoy.

***Thanks for any help. PLEASE NOTE: This gift needs to be something _from the US that would be hard to find in India_. The money idea was ok, but we can give her money any time, and we can buy her a saree for her when we are in India. I am asking what kind of memento/items we should bring to her *from* the US that are unique to America.*** Thanks again for any help.

given a situation that a young lady is working probably as a maid servant, i will definitely give her a fat money and ask her to purchase anything of her choice or save for her wedding.
its more a pratical way and remembered for a long time.

A digital camera, or a replica of the Statue of Liberty are these easily found in India I do not think the statue would if it came from Ellis island and has a stamp of certification. I do not think jewelry is out of the question what if there was a heart pendant that could open and have a picture inserted of someone or somewere she loves. or go to this site has gifts for many occasions you can personalize for her

Give her a Cell phone which will be very much useful to her and also that is the latest craze in India. Please see the compatibility of the phone before purchasing because I heard that some cellphones from US are not working in India.
