Non-vegetarien food....

2006-10-12 20:47:53 · answer #1 · answered by prince 6 · 1 1

There are many different degrees of vegetarianism.

The strictest vegetarian is the vegan, who won't eat any animal products at all. They wouldn't consider eggs vegetarian, because an egg could become a chick (so if you eat the egg, you are killing the chick before it's born).

Most vegetarians would eat eggs, because you don't have to kill the hen to get the eggs. They also drink milk.

There are even some vegetarians that eat fish, though how they justify that I'll never understand - have you ever watched the poor fish die after it's been caught?

Yes...eggs are a product from an animal but the egg is not a living thing and the animal it came from was not slaughtered to get the egg. Although there are a few different types of vegetarians, the main thing they all have in common is that they eat no animal flesh (this includes fish despite what some ignorant people might think). Since egg is not flesh, it can be considered vegetarian friendly. Lacto-Ovo vegetarians (the most common) use dairy and egg.

It depends on the vegetarian.

Vegan vegetarians who abstain from all animal products would consider it non-vegetarian.

If one is vegetarian for health reasons, then one would probably want to avoid too many eggs, which are high in cholesterol (but to be fair, also rich in other nutrient goodies).

If one is vegetarian for religious reasons, it would depend on the religion, or one's interpretation of the religious beliefs.

If one is vegetarian due to personal / moral reasons, then it would depend on the hen! =) Most commercial eggs would be unfertilized (though this cannot be guaranteed) and therefore contain no potential for life, so technically, one would not be taking a life by eating the egg. Nevertheless, commercial hens are cooped up pretty bad, so though one would not be taking a life by eating the egg, one would arguably be eating the product of cruelty to animals. If one keeps one's own free-range hens, then the cruelty (one hopes) would not be an issue, but there is a higher chance of the eggs being fertilized by a rooster, and therefore with potential for life...

I am curious though, why you have specified _raw_ eggs? Other than the taste, and that raw eggs would probably contain more vitamins (being undamaged by the heat of cooking), I can't think of any difference between raw vs cooked eggs in terms of the vegetarian...

P/S: Ha ha! I initially typed in the four-letter synonym for rooster, beginning with a C, but yahoo censored it! =)

In the poultry produced egg, there is killing of life involved. Hence, it should be regarded as a vegetarian food. But, consider the manner in which the eggs are produced. The chicks are bred in a caged condition and made to lay egg for the human consumption. Now, it is a question of ethics rather than presence of life in the product. Hence, the objection.

Vegetarian? Yes. Vegan? No.

There are many types of vegetarians, so you have to be pretty specific! Vegans don't eat any animal products, including eggs, milk, cheese, etc. Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians don't eat meat but will eat dairy and eggs.

Raw eggs we eat these days are no longer produced through natural methods, that is, Hens in poultry farms are impregnated through scientific methods and not by a ****/Rooster. Hence scientifically they are not considered non vegetarian.

Since it is animal based and not from a plant, it is not a vegetable! Vegans would not eat eggs, but most vegetarins will eat eggs and even some fish.

If you carefully broke open an egg, you can see even the embyro, with red arteries. After incubation this egg will produce a chick from within it.
So............it is non-Veg.
