Ok. Everyone's had their say on this matter.
Now, basic facts people:
1) Japan is NOT predominantly Christian. That's undeniable.
2) The Japanese are very patriotic and love their country.
3) They strictly enforce their laws.
Maybe Christians should take a good hard look at why a non-Christian nation is more successful, more patriotic and more strict against crime that the biggest Christian superpower in the world.
There is nothing wrong by learning something new which will benefit others. Unless Christians don't want to accept non-Christian but beneficial ideas.

You make a good point. I personally believe that the Nation of Japan has traditionally had a low crime rate because of two or three things that have very high priorities in the Japanese culture.
1) Japanese are fiercely patriotic and have a very great respect for their nation.
2) Japanese have traditionally considered the family as sacred.
3) Japanese have more respect for their children than Americans
if you can believe it.
4) Japanese place a huge emphasis on respect and honor of individuals, customs and traditions.
By the way the first three points that I make are Biblical themes.
If the wild west had values like the Japanese the west would have
been a lot more tame.

It's not religion, it's culture. They are a society based on pride, respect, and shame. A 12 year old kid who steals a bike in China could be shamed the rest of his life, shunned by his peers, never to get in good schools or get a good job. They hold respect as the highest priority. Us Americans don't give a damn about pride or respect. This is not a commercial for Christianity either. That sure hasn't worked for morality. It's just a question of culture, not religion.

I think it has more to do with social structure than religion. The Japanese people have a long tradition of rigid social structure that helps to maintain a sense of duty to ones nation. The united states if an amalgam of people from all over the world with conflicting social regimes that clash against one another most of the time.

Well first off we don't have the highest crime rate in the world, that said I'm sure that the brand of christianity we have has little to do with high crime. The ultra liberal policies regarding criminal punishment are our problem,a great deal of our crime is repeat offenders. Our religious institutions only breed intolerance, not crime,I would love to blame them but it doesn't fit. If we actually punished people in our society and held them responsible for actual wrong doing ( not all this drug war crap in other words) and kept the truly bad criminals in jail we could see a radical drop in our crime rate.

NO, I am sure that is not the reason. There may not be many Christians, but they are religious. I am sure that they respect and acknowledge God Jehovah, Jesus Christ and The Holy Ghost.

Oh come off it Larry. If you want to dis Christians or the USA you can do better than that. Japans Crime rate is low because of all the fish they eat instead of mad cow beef. Fish makes you smarter instead of rotting little holes in your brain.
The fact that all cattle ranchers and cowboys producing mad cow beef are christian really has nothing to do with it.
now check the list of people dissed in my answer. not only your original Xians and USA but also beef industry, cowboys and ranchers. with minor mods you should be able to form a question that slams every identifiable group on the planet

I don't think crime rate has to do anything with religion. Crime rates are a factor of socio-economic conditions, in my opinion. In the US there is a big number of frustrated, uneducated, poor minority. Also, the welfare system doesn't rehabilitate its receipts. In addition, I think the Japanese culture promote work.
