There are no home remedies that will cure your abcessed tooth. An abscess is an infection and if left untreated could have serious consequences. You need to get to your dentist immediately and get on antibiotics and review treatment options. In the meantime ibuprofen will help.
I found this on a website and thought you might want to read this...
Left alone, abscesses can become quite serious. In the days before antibiotics and modern surgery, dental abscess was a common cause of death. Upon occasion, especially in the case of an untreated abscess of an upper front tooth, the patient can get a brain abscess which can kill him. This brain infection is called cavernous sinus thrombosis.
I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years and the answer is save the tooth. A root canal now is a cake walk and loosing a tooth is nightmare unless you do an implant. Your teeth will shift, the tooth above will drop and after time a bridge will cost you more. So do this. Ask the dentist if the cost of root canal and crown are worth it or should you do an extraction and implant. It balances out to the same monies. And the implant will last you 200 years or until a nuclear attack. I make my patients do the implant because root canaled teeth typically fail after 10 years and why spend 2500. now when an implant and crown are the same. My only exception is front teeth. So have a heart to heart with your dentist and have him explain both options and in the long run what is best for you. I have no desire to do a RCT and Post and core and crown to yank out the tooth in 5 years to do an implant. I have 11 implants myself because most root canals do fail and the root structure is compromise. Why waste the time and monies now. As far as pain, a root canal is simple. An extraction is only sore for 1-2 days at best. There is no reason to make a decision based on that. Just what is best in the long run. Pain meds will stop it either way. M

Most home remedies will only serve to aggravate the problem even if it gives you temporary relief. An abscess, which is an infection, is best relieved by taking antibiotics and, after the infection clears, having the tooth properly taken care of by a dentist.

There are only two ways to "get rid" of an abscess in a tooth, get it extracted or have a root canal done on it.

What do you mean "get rid of?"
Go see a dentist... you may need a root canal done. A family doctor may prescribe antibiotics for temporary relief. Painkillers like ibuprofen and acetaminophen works too for temp relief.
Sometimes, numbing the area with salt or mouthwash helps a little. Chewing genseng bits may have the same numbing effect.
Personally, I tried squeezing some hersey (real) chocolate sauce to help release endorphins in me. Seemed to work :)

Mix 2 to 3 drops of pure clove oil with 1/4 teaspoon olive oil. Saturate a cotton ball with the mixture and place the cotton ball beside the tooth. Mix two teaspoons of activated charcoal powder with just enough water to make a paste. Apply it to a piece of gauze and place the gauze on the tooth. Bite down. See your dentist if pain lasts longer than one or two days,if you have a fever,if you have trouble breathing or swallowing,if you have chest shoulder or arm pain,if there is a foul discharge

No, I know from very recent expirience that nothing helps except antibiotics. If you've gone to a dentist at all you can usually call and set up an appointment and they can call in a prescription for antibiotics and pain killers. That will help.
P.S. My hubby has even called his dentist to set up his appt. and gotten them to call him in meds then rescheduled the appointment for later so he could save up the money to have the tooth pulled

You can't "get rid" of it short of getting it pulled, which should be done by a professional. Doing it yourself could result in infections, excessive bleeding (even to death), bone damage, or nerve damage.
It's best you see a dentist right away. It's dangerous.

nothing will get 'rid' of an abcessed tooth except root canal or extraction...if you opt for extraction you will need to be on antibiotics for a time.....always try to save the tooth...so root canal is the way to go.
