Other than they might get damaged by getting struck by something/someone, would the sound be loud and clear of backround noise??

Absolutely a terrible idea!

Monitor speakers are usually designed for "accuracy" in audio reproduction, which is why they are found in studios. Even though many high end studio speakers are capable of producing high SPL (sound pressure level, aka "volume") they are not designed for coverage of a large area.

Rent, purchase or borrow speakers designed for the task. If this is not an option, hire a sound reinforcement professional to provide equipment and engineering for the DJ. It is done all the time.

If this is not an option, you will meet better success using some high powered home stereo speakers rather than monitors.

Good luck. If you need more info, IM me.

By studio monitors, you mean small speakers? Studio monitors are usually 8" or so speakers, which would be OK to use depending on the size of the crowd, etc. Also be sure that your power amp is not too powerful for them. But if it's a large space or big crowd, bigger speakers might be a better option for you. It's probably better to have more volume than you need than to need more volume than you have.
