Well that was dumb, you might have to buy another ticket. There is no way to change a name in a day. Try calling the airline and ask them what to do. You'll never get through security with id that doesn't match the ticket.
The people who are telling you that you'll be fine to travel and that you'll get your marriage certificate right away are wrong. Airport security is tighter than ever, ids must match tickets. Also, I didn't get my marriage certificate for months after I was married. The officiant has to file the certificate with the county and then the county mails it to you. You HAVE to change either your ID or your ticket to travel, the names have to match. I don't see why you can't change the ticket, you can't be the first person this has happened to; I think your inlaws are mistaken about that. Like I said call your specific airline.

The marriage certificate will have the "new" name, and the old, since with it you will be able to change all the other official documents. I am sure the airline will accept a copy or the original marriage certificate as proof that this is your new name, although it will be different from the one on your passport.
To be sure give them a call, but I am pretty sure they will accept the marriage certificate, which you should carry for boarding inside the passport and show it to the stewardess, as a proof of change of name.
You will get the marriage certificate instantly in the moment you get married, so you will have no problems. Just don't forget it! :)

1. Call the airport and find out what the policy is for your situation,
2. Get a new drivers license as soon as possible, they may give you a temporary one, (take your marriage license papers with you),
3. Take your original ,marriage license with you on your honeymoon.
4. Can the name be changed on your plane ticket?
(Wish I was in your shoes)

Take your marriage certificate with you. If questioned, you can show it as proof. You should be OK.
