so im thinking of making a move on a girl who is my friend. is there anything i can do when we are hanging out i.e ask her questions, hold her hand to gauge if i should do it?

if she is willing to go out with you mean you are already heading the right direction, ask her out more often, but to move one step further like hand holding should come naturally eg. while road crossing or getting into the cinema/concert. Touching her without any purpose may frighten her n ruin your relationship !
Find out what she like then try to share those activities together, build-up the bond slowly, never rush !
Extend your hand to her after chatting with her for sometime[at the park or after having a drink or meal with her for example] to make a move to lead her away, this method of 'gauge' is so spontaneous n natural that you can try n wouldn't set 'fear' upon her! After a few times of more hand holding, its becoming a routine n more intimacy touching may be build upon. Good luck !

You don't want to scare her away and make things awkward between you two. Make sure that she reciprocates your feelings.
