The Greek manuscript in 1 Timothy 3:1 goes ...
pistos(faithful) o(the) logos(word) ei(if) tis(someone) episkopis(of "bishopping") oregetai(covets / has an appetite for) kalou(of a good) ergou(work) epithymei(he desires).

“a-pee-sko-pee” means to inspect, to examine, to oversee, etc.
[E.g., “a-pee-sko-pee” was the duty that Judas lost (Psalms 109:8, Acts 1:20)]

Now, “episkopo” = “to bishop” (as a verb) so “episkopee” means “bishopping” or “bishopance” (as if there were such words) [similar relationship with, e.g, to accept-accepting-acceptance, to disturb-disturbing-disturbance]

“episcopos” (1 Timothy 3:2, Titus 1:7,...) is the man who is charged with the duty of “episkopee”

I think, in protestant churches, “elders” and pastors are charged with the duty of “episcopee”, “bishopping”, “episcoping,”, i.e. overseeing etc. the body.

For example, apostle Peter referred to himself as elder and co-elder (1 Peter 5:1), apostle John as elder (2 John 1:1) etc.

God bless

Well, that's because Catholics follow the words of Peter and Paul instead of Jesus!

We Protesants follow God and Jesus.

And, by the way, a few Protestant sects do have Bishops. Are you NOT familiar with the classic movie the Bishop's Wife or did you think Catholics Bishops could marry in the 1940s!

Protestants don't have Cardinals.

Are Cardinals listed in the Bible?

Are Pope's listed in the Bible?

Did Jesus tell anyone to create a Pope and have him pretend to be Jesus or to Rein in the place of Jesus?

Did Jesus DELEGATE supreme authority to ANY MAN to take his place!

Find that one for us, eh!

ray_of_light06,
I don't see a commandment there. Do you? That there HAS to be a bishop? Is there a commandment from God, THOU SHALT HAVE BISHOPS? If that were true, we might want to call them episcope. After the Greek, unless you are supposed to follow the Latin!

Some pastors ARE the episcope. And it's cool like that, don't you think?

EDIT: I have no idea what that guy was talking about! Never saw him before either! lol

Where are pastors mentioned? Ephesians 4:11. So why don't Catholics have pastors?

And ya know, if you Christians would stop arguing so much with each other, it would really help your case. Actually... go ahead and keep fighting... nevermind.

Actually, the majority of Protestant churches do. Why they're not heard about or heard from more often, I know not, but they're out there.

Anglicans and episcopals do, although a body of them are barely more than the average agnostic.
