Did you know that a static electrical shock is about 25,000 volts? You have built up a charge mainly because of the lower humidity in the winter time. Your tires act as insulaters and when you get out and grab the door you complete the electrical path to ground and Ka puy ya you get nailed. Check out this web site on how to avoid it.http://www.static-sol.com/articles/static_shocks.htm#What%20about%20shocks%20when%20I%20get%20out%20of%20my%20car?

Cloth seats, what a bummer. I get that too, or used to get that. It's just friction. What I do is while still seated, just befor getting out, touch a piece of the door frame or something metal. this will "pull" the charge out of you and you won't get that zap, which is just static electricity.

hi mrpaulrich, i'm undecided if this could help yet I had a simular occasion with a older toyota corolla i think of it become, yet till now I say what happend you need to ask your self a acouple questions. Is your seats fabric or leather-based Is it dry air outdoors or humid Does this take place no remember what style of climate is occurring. reason I say it quite is in the journey that your seat is fabric and that's dry air outdoors you may very easly %. up a static charge from once you get out of the automobile out of your automobile seat. I genuinely have a Jeep and characteristic fabric seats and that i've got this take place many times. Now for what i began out to declare. on the Toyota reported, My step sister had very simular challenge, after checking diverse issues including sparkplug wires, floor wires, and such.( quite ignition components ), I got here to the tip that the Distributer become inflicting the challenge. it could do it however on condition that it become quite moist air and or moist and the ask your self become properly.. eye opeining. It become inflicting the coil to permit the charge left in it from whilst the engine become working to charge the physique and as quickly as I ( or every person else for that remember) stepped out ( floor ourselfs) we've been given a small ask your self. i finished up changing the distibutor interior the automobile, to boot because of fact the plug wires for reliable diploma. yet from what you describe i could just about think of it become a static electricty charge. based of path if the ask your self is persevering with no remember what the climate. attempt once you get of the the automobile till now you completely go out. carry close the actual of the door as you go out and then shop ahold of it as you close up it then insert your key. See in case you nevertheless get very much shocked on the same time as preserving the door whilst locking it. in case you do i could think of there's a short, or undesirable floor someplace. in case you do no longer the challenge in all probability is a static charge construction up as you go out the automobile from the seat and or rug. wish this helps.

This was suggested to me by a friend...flick your finger on the metal object before you touch it. Remember as kids your mom, aunt, grandma...or someone, would not spank you, put flick your ear lobe with their fingers? With your thumb and pointer, or middle finger...example: playjng football with that triangle folded paper on your desk with your buddy as he made that hand stand field goal! and your on the other side to flick it over...Thats what I'm talking about...that flick. Try it.

I would be careful at the gas station... People go sit in their car and wait for the gas to pump cause a spark at the gas station. then BOOM... Also I think if you cell phone rings you can cause a fire at the gas station too.
