If Americans demand cheap goods and illegal immigrants supply cheap labor to keep the cost of goods low, wouldn't deportation and stricter immigration laws interfere with supply/demand? And if we don't want illegal immigrants here because they depress wages, isn't that protectionism and limiting competition?

I'm not trying to spark a debate here or express an opinion one way or the other on illegal immigration. I just want to know if being anti-illegal immigration is the same thing as being anti-free market. Heck, maybe I don't even understand free market theory correctly.

Thoughtful, informed replies only, please.

Either way -- hire anyone or only documented workers -- makes for a caste system that eventually makes life miserable for everyone except the few. We need strong laws to punish owners that exploit cheap labor or outsource. Otherwise, all the gains that America accomplished are in danger of fading away, i.e. the 40-work week, overtime pay, health benefits, ect.

If we could impose the U.S. Constitution on Mexico and Asia then a true Free Market with the Fair Trade Agreement could happen. But, sadly, we have to support bad government both abroad and at home when we use cheap labor.

Hiring illegal immigrants from Mexico is just putting off their country's revolution and shift to Left-Wing government. Allowing Asia to hide Sweatshop factories so our Consumer Society can hold off inflation is just plain mean.

Free Trade Agreements like NAFTA are an experiement with no proven results. They warp the accepted theories of economics.

Well, "free market" does not logically equate to the elimination of political borders. As expressed by the actions of the past three or four administrations, we as Americans love to outsource the crappy jobs, especially for rock bottom prices!! There is a great political paradox involved here though, that being that NOW, flagrant disregard and acceptance of illegal immigration is heralded by the Republican party as the proper course of action, while the Democratic party "party-o-da-peoples" has taken a stance to lockdown and secure the border, an obvious anti-border jumping opinion. Such incongruent stances with the inherent party patforms may suggest that neither party possesses any true convictions other than those that may enhance the possibility of winning a current election.

So, supporting the "free market" needs to be the same thing as supporting "full documentation", and not an "open border".......

America is not really a free market. The goverment subsidizes certain industries and creates regulations to hinder those they do not like. A free market might work in a society where politicians were honest, but thats most likely impossible. The critical question should be, are you agianst immigration? Immigration is vital to our economy, but illegal immigration costs our country billions every year. You can have a free market society and still have laws agianst illegal immigration. Just allow people to immigrate legally. I know people in the central valley who came here legally and illegally. One is not better off then the other, but the ones here legally don't have to worry about deportation.

NO, HELL NO..... Americans would rather have quality goods than the cheap imported trash that floods the shelves of stores...

ILLEGAL ALIENS are CRIMINALS.... what the HELL does that have to do with free trade or fair trade??? Not a damn thing....

Not wanting the criminal ILLEGAL ALIENS here has to do with the quality of life and and standard of living.... and, the LAW....

I am anti-free market if it hurts the US economy in any way.... NAFTA and GATT are a total disaster for the USA.

Illegal aliens create higher prices with their shoddy workmanship... with their stealing of services, their depressing of wages, trashing of our cities, disease, drugs, murders, prison inmates..... they are NOT good for the USA.

I don't see lower prices because of illegal alien thieves.... they may have an effect on vegetables.... that is about all..... I would rather pay 3 times the price for produce than have these criminal minded illegal aliens invading and destroying our country.... also, if the need arises, I can grow my own produce.... always have when I live where the soil is decent....

There is nothing wrong with protecting America.... it is one of the few countries in the world worth protecting.... at present, it is not being protected by our government or law enforcement.... sure, they pay lip service and take token actions.. but they are aiding and abetting the criminal illegal aliens in their crime wave invasion of the USA.

He has each superb under the 1st modification. notwithstanding, some cry infant would be "terrorized" via the bumper decal, call the ACLU, call the police, and phone their psychiatrist.. The police will arrest the owner of the motor vehicle for kinfolk terrorism, the ACLU will sue the owner in courtroom and award crybaby a million money for having his ideas broken, and psychiatrist will furnish the Prozac to the unfavourable indignant crybaby. the driving force would be ordered to 10 years in detention center. that's what occurs once you get your Constitutional rights stripped away. So who will you vote for in November? needless to say no longer socialist Obama. no longer open border McCain. attempt writing in Ron Paul's call or balloting Libertarian for a transformation. save our us of a and your rights.

The free-market system is dependant upon the rule of law, so upholding the law does not make one anti-market.

deporting will not make anything worse, it will actually bring value up but tons, for the fact that jobs oen up at rates they should be paid at, unions will have to start making good calls instead of telling a mexican to vote SI or a polish guy to vote yes or anything else

you see illegal is illegal no matter hat people are trying to prove, no worker pass or amnesty will cover what we lost, what we need to to rid them all one way or another

Well, gee, I think you've taken a serious subject into fantasyland. If you disregard laws, you can hypothesize just about anything to rationalize anything.
