Am looking for desk for a 5-year-old that they could use a few years, maybe starting out being a bit roomy. I've seen some really pricey ones, but I don't want to pay that for 1-2 years use! ($150 - $400 is a bit much...) I also don't want to degrade my child by getting a toddler-like setup. Any ideas of where to find this online?

I "built" a desk using cinder blocks and a wide piece of wood. They can also be made using plastic crates from supermarkets. You can make the desk any height depending on the height of the chair. Cinder blocks have fun "holes" in them that can be used to store precious things! Plastic crates are colorful.

God bless you and good luck.

I bought a standard desk at yard sale and painted it with chalk board paint that I bought at home depot and put a box on the side to store the chalk, my boys 7 and 8 at the time loved it, they are now 10 and 11 and still use it everyday.

Check with your local schools. We got 2 desks from them when they were getting new ones. I only paid $5 each and they worked until they were in 4th grade.
