Or made up as an amalgam of pagan religions past?

The pre-Christian God Mithras - called the Son of God and the Light of the World - was born on December 25, died, was buried in a rock tomb, and then resurrected in three days. By the way, December 25 is also the birthday or Osiris, Adonis, and Dionysus. The newborn Krishna was presented with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Even Christianity's weekly holy day was stolen from the pagans!

Do a google search for "Mithraism" and read for yourself.... question things my friends....

Nothing is original. I think that the man Jesus did live. I think that he may have even been a prophet. However, none of the hell and sin crap in the bible ever came out of his mouth. In my opinion, of course.

Some, not all, of you have valid points. Others are full of nonesense!.
WHere do you do your , uh, we'll call it research just to be polite?
There is practically nothing left in modren christendom that isn't begged, borrowed or stolen from other 'religions'. You can only find truth in religion from one group, and everyone berates them so much that only a few take them seriously. But they are several million strong, with even more followers and more each day realizing they have the truth. Its the Jehovah's Witnesses. They don't do the brainwashing or any junk like that that the other religions like and say that they do. It is true, however, that they have the most intensive, indepth and honest Bible studies you will ever have. They get into the MEAT of the Bible and you really learn it. And not mankind's theories either. The truth of the matter. No trinity doctrine, no pagan belief's brought in to bring the pagans in , none of that mess. Good old bible teaching. Its amazing. IF you want to learn the Bible inside and out, spend a year studying with them. You will LEARN IT! That is, if you have the self committment to sit down and work at it. Most people don't. Its too real for most people and they don't have the courage to do it. They learn the truth- about themselves, the Bible, God , and the lies they have been fed at their churches while growing up and that their parents/families/clergy have fed them all their lives. They don't brainwash people- they wash your brains free of the lies you've been fed. they don't do speaking in tongues or laying on of hands or eating live chickens or any such drama queen such as other churches do. They are very calm and peaceful, loving to a fault and caring. Try a study for 1 year, that is only 52 studies and see what all you learn that you have been taught wrongly since childhood. FROM THE BIBLE> not you priest or pastor or whoever and you'll be amazed. I challenge you. Most people don't CARE enough about the Bible to look beyond it just being a story book to LEARN the truths and teachings in it. But if you have the NERVE, the STAMINA and the CONVICTION, give it 1 hour a week for one year. I challenge you.

However, it cannot be denied that the Holy Ghost is still in operation today, at least if you have received it. The followers of Christ do not celebrate Christmas. There is no scriptural evidence of this. Because the world has chosen this, does not make it right. The fact that a large part of the "christian" world today has decided to co-opt pagan rituals does not void the validity of who and what Jesus Christ is.

Nearly all religions borrow from each other - it's called "syncretism". Religious syncretism exhibits blending of two or more religious belief systems into a new system, or the incorporation into a religious tradition of beliefs from unrelated traditions. This can occur for many reasons, and the latter scenario happens quite commonly in areas where multiple religious traditions exist in proximity and function actively in the culture, or when a culture is conquered, and the conquerors bring their religious beliefs with them, but do not succeed in entirely eradicating the old beliefs or, especially, practices. Religions may have syncretic elements to their beliefs or history, but adherents of so-labeled systems often frown on applying the label, especially adherents who belong to "revealed" religious systems, such as the Abrahamic religions, or any system that exhibits an exclusivist approach. Such adherents sometimes see syncretism as a betrayal of their pure truth. By this reasoning, adding an incompatible belief corrupts the original religion, rendering it no longer true. Indeed, critics of a specific syncretistic trend may sometimes use the word "syncretism" as a disparaging epithet, as a charge implying that those who seek to incorporate a new view, belief, or practice into a religious system actually distort the original faith. Non-exclusivist systems of belief, on the other hand, may feel quite free to incorporate other traditions into their own. In Moses and Monotheism, Sigmund Freud made a case for Judaism arising out of the pre-existing monotheism that was briefly imposed upon Egypt during the rule of Akhenaten. Aten, the disk of the sun in ancient Egyptian mythology, and originally an aspect of Ra, was chosen as the sole deity for Akhenaten's new religion. The "Code of Hammurabi" is also cited as a likely starting point for the Jewish Ten Commandments. Hammurabi was from the Mesopotamian culture that revered Marduk, among others. Judaism fought lengthy battles against syncretist tendencies: note the case of the golden calf and the railing of prophets against temple prostitution, witchcraft and local fertility cults, as told in the Tanakh. On the other hand, some scholars hold that Judaism refined its concept of monotheism and adopted features such as its eschatology, angelology and demonology through contacts with Zoroastrianism.

*yawn* Here we go with the Mithra thing again. Let me ask you this. Which books have you read on Mithraism and what scholars do you most appreciate in this field? Do you know how thin the relationship between early Christianity and the Mithraic cult actually was or do you just see lists of similarities on the internet and get all giddy about it? Do yourself a favor and dig deeper.

Start with this:

"The only domain in which we can ascertain in detail the extent to which Christianity imitated Mithraism is that of art."

It's like the wine of fruit human, as the apple tree "apples" so does the planet "people". And what happens if you leave fruit around? It gets moist and turns into another strata of life, a new ecosystem where once was not. I'm pretty sure relegions are organisms. Their holy books as cells. Giant 4th dimensional human brain jellyfish, like forests and mushroom symbiots. Ancient forms and branching. One will easily borrow from another. They evolve, they speciate, specialize, breed. So, yes, you're absolutly right, they do borrow from older forms. Quite often them become something more complicated and the easier forms can be easier to digest and closer to the truth of the experience of the messiah, the chosen one of...
Beautiful really, the patterns, the way they hit the light of truth and reflect the light around us.

That's what happens when god entrusts his ministry to mankind. Have you noticed when god fills a nation they get puffed up and disobey him. the Jews for example, tempted god after witnessing the miracle of the red sea being parted for their safe crossing. You want the truth, the bible, i know men wrote it and they are not perfect but it was not the men through god but god through the men that wrote the bible. Many things we do are not original, look at how many different sects their are to what was at one time one ministry, one faith. Some just don't change, they go through the routine and expect heaven to be their reward, we took what was gold and tarnished it with our foolishness.
So question not our god, question the man who claims to be from god, for a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
Look not to the left or the right, focus only on the prize my sister, celebrating a holiday is not going to get you into heaven. Ministry and miracles, numbers in your church means nothing. It is the personal relationship with the lord our god which matters, every thing else will follow.

Christianity's roots are Judaism, and as a matter of fact Christianity IS Judaism in the light of the very Jewish Messiah, Jesus. There is ONE true God, His name is Yahweh, Jehovah, the Great "I AM". He changes not, contrary to popular belief. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. And His son's name is Jesus. He is the baby and all that other crap is the bathwater. Hope this helps....

And original sin is still original...

Religions are like little boys on in a school yard argument. They have the "My dad can beat up your dad" mentality... except it's "Our god is better than your god. Our god can do this, this, and that." "Oh yeah! Well my god can all that and then some." It's all ego driven plagiarism. This is why no one religion can be more right than another... most contain similar elements.

You forgot to mention the virgin birth...many of these gods were born of virgins or women who "miraculously" conceived. Many, many people have pointed out how much of Christianity was borrowed from other religions at the time--one you didn't mention was zoastroism (sorry about the spelling), which contains many similiarities to Judaeo-Christian beliefs.

Christians said God divide itself and became Mithras, Osiris, ... under other people's views. I think Christianity just impose other religions and Judaism the most.
