Would love to run a charity that works with poor and homeless kids. It’s to bad an officer’s day is spent dealing with crack and meth heads when all they care about is themselves. There is no time to get to know the true community. It’s rough not being able to get out and talk to the people who really matter the most, the kids.
I work in a poorer community. The kids have nothing! No after school programs, a crap hole park, no places to hang out. It’s hard for them to even play on the street because of all the drugs and crime. The kids are loosing the fight and the crack heads are winning. The money one crack head spends on crack, the money he steels, the amount of money spent defending a crack head and money spent housing the crack head in jail, could buy that kid some dam nice cloths, dam nice education, a dam nice park and maybe some hope. I wish there were 10 of me and 10 of every other officer out there. There is not enough of us to deal with the good and the bad. All we have time to deal with is the bad and once again the good suffer. If I make two arrests in one day my work day is shot. From booking to paperwork for the two arrests takes about 7 hours and once again the community only gets to see the ugly side of police work. Most of all it’s what the kids see. The bad cop they don’t know arresting someone in their community.
If I had to do another job it would be working with the community that I serve for.

I have known officers that were teachers, doctors, military, burger flippers, probation officers, corrections officers, and all sorts of other things either prior to or after having been a police officer. It greatly depends on the person and their ability/yearning/education to do something else.

Some of them would be prison officers, another job where there is a high degree of control over other people.

Bouncers at bars, narcs and suppliers of steroids to bodybuilders. Anything that pumps up that adrenalin!
Actually, aubry65355, I speak ill of cops and have never been arrested. Do you know why? Because I threw in the face of the one abusing his authority on me that I'd file a grievance, and knew he had no basis to threaten me like that. As he pinned me against a bookshelf, threatening to arrest me, he backed off like he filled his pants with his own excrement.
To make statements like that is to empower the rotten apples, putting the blame for their violations and abuse back on citizens.
I'd LOVE to see a cop that dreams to be one to clean up the force

Those who think cops are crooks have either only met one and he was bad, or like most who hate the police in America, it's because they have been arrested. There are crooked cops but they are the exception. Kind of like finding a college student with common sense. It happens but it not the norm.
