Legally speaking and in CA. I just turned 18 and I've been seeing a girl that's 16. And do you think that's wrong?

Does anyone know the specifics of the law? because I have a juvenile record and can't afford to mess around... so to speak.

In California the age of consent is 18. Some places its ok within a certain age gap (17 and 18 would be fine). I couldn't find the law on that for California, but I found it for Arizona: you are prosecuted one way if the age gap is more than 24 months, and prosecuted another if its within 24 months.

I don't know whether or not its true, but around here the general belief is that in a situation like that (assuming it WAS against the law) you are fine UNTIL the parent presses charges. (This is obviously different for a 25 year old and 13 year old or something like that).

I just found this:
California Age of Sexual Consent: 18
Statutory Rape Law: Cannot have sex with someone under 18. Anyone over 21 who has sex with a 16 year old or younger can be arrested.

I dont exactly know what that means for 18 and 16 year olds though.

It has nothing to do with right or wrong.. the question to ask is why you are intent on any certain age in your dating preferences? I assume you want someone who is less sophisticated, less intelligent, more willing to be manipulated etc? If so, you will not be happy with your choice.. If you are truly self confident, look for a woman, 20 years old, or older and cowboy up to the challenge..

Legally, yes. But if you really like her, and you know she likes you, wait until she's 18. It's only a few years away. After all, love can wait.
