One is on a table and one is on the ceiling. One is vertical and the other horizontal. A table fan is generally encased for safety; a ceiling fan is not. Table fans are smaller and faster as well. You can't depend on the rotation of the blade because many ceiling fans can reverse directions.

Hi. The direction of flow is much more important than the rotation direction. A table fan tends to blow towards the front. A ceiling fan is reversible so it can push air down or up. The moving air cools the people in the room by evaporation of perspiration.

Technically there is no difference it is just a different type of fan like you have different types of cars in basic technology they are same

and to all of you who say the difference is in the direction of rotation let me clear you the direction does't hold any difference the direction of rotation is defined by the shape of the blades so if you modify the blades the same ceiling fan will pull air instead of pushing it down

ceiling fan moves air in a downward motion, and can be used to pull air up by reversing it. this is instrumental in using it to aid in central and heating a home or office. hot air rises and cool air falls. In the winter the fan will cause the warm air near the ceiling to be pushed downward giving more heat ito the occupants rather than leaving it trapped near the ceiling. during the summer you and do just the opposite . A table fan is designed to sit on a table or other stand and blow a breeze acros the area it is covering. It only blows in one directionand unless it is an osculating fan it (sweep the blades from side to side) it only blows in the direction it is turned, or facing. functional ceiling fans are designed to aid in cooling /heating while table fanse are designed to blow a breeze across a specific area.
