Also, could you give me a tip how to make a cake moist?

I appreciate the suggestions about cake mixes but that's pretty expensive. I would like to do cakes from scratch... You know, flour and stuff. I'm curious about the right proportions though.

Use Betty Crocker Supermoist box cake mix. Here is a link to the website showing the available flavors. Pick the one you like best.
http://www.bettycrocker.com/Products/SuperMoist-Cakes/

Also if the cake calls for oil use a good quality oil like extra virgin olive oil or enola. It can be expensive but will help make it nice and moist. Try not to use the really cheap in price oils. Go middle of the road price oil if a high end price is too much money. A higher priced oil is usually a better quality oil. But don't get a flavored olive oil if you go with a olive oil

Use the oven timer. For example for a 13 X 9 cake pan the recipe may say 22 to 28 minutes, set timer for 22 minutes. If when you go to slid the drawer out the cake jiggles at the center it is not done. Gently slid drawer back in. If the cake does not jiggle using a wooden tooth pick, push it gently about half the way into the center of the cake & if it comes out clean then it is done and take it out. If not then let bake for another minute or two. Another way to tell if cake is getting done will be as the sides begin to come away from the wall of the pan.

Hope that helps. Good Luck with the cake.

Ok So your add'l comments were not there when I started my answer. But the suggestions about baking it are still valid. I am looking up reciepes now. The only thing about from scratch receipes is that they can be more expensive if you have to buy all the needed ingredients. Also does it have to be a cake? I have a really easy cheese cake receipe which does not need to be baked.

Chocolate Cake
1 1/2 cups unbleached white flour
1 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons of Hershey's Coco
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 Tablespoon white vinegar
6 Tablespoons canola oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup water

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.Combine all ingredients in medium mixing bowl. Stir together with wooden spoon until just mixed.
3.Pour into very lightly greased and floured 8 inch square pan.(Or you can use a for baking style pam spray instead of greasing and flouring pan and works as easily) or 9 inch round pan. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. Test with toothpick or knife.

Chocolate Cake
2 c sugar
1 c cooking oil (Crisco)
2 eggs
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 c buttermilk
2 tsps baking soda
2 c all-purpose flour
3/4 c cocoa powder
1 c boiling water
Blend sugar and oil together then add eggs and beat well. Blend in salt and vanilla. Mix soda into buttermilk and stir well. Fold cocoa and flour together then alternate buttermilk and flour mixture into sugar mixture. Beat well, until all is well incorporated. Add boiling water and beat well.
Bake in an oiled and wax paper lined cookie sheet, 20 minutes at 400'F
This cake can also be baked in 2- 9" cake pans, 30 minutes at 350'F
Cake can be frosted with favorite frosting or eaten plain.
This cake is the most moist cake I have ever eaten and will keep for a long time in the refrigerator without drying out. If you live in a cool climate, the cake does not need refrigeration.

You need:
3 eggs
100g castor sugar
100g Self Raising flour
2 Tablespoons warm milk
25 grams melted butter

Method:
Pre-heat the oven to 180 C (moderate oven).

Separate the eggs, beat the egg whites until fluffy. Add sugar and beat until stiff.

Fold in the melted butter, sifted flour and milk, with wooden spoon until mixed through. Remember the more you stir, the heavier the cake.

Pour the mix in a lined, greased cake tin and cook in the oven for 15-20 minutes.

Serving Suggestion: Decorate with whipped cream and strawberries or your favourite fruit.

Lighter fruits like berries, thinly sliced kiwi and banana work well (banana goes brown so eat it quick).

Victoria Sponge

175g self raising flour
175g softened butter
175g caster sugar
3 eggs

Mix all together. Put in greased tin (18cm / 7in round). Bake in oven on 180 degress Celcius / 350 F for 25-30 mins.

Yummy cake all done!!

If you want you can slice it in two horizontally (to make a sandwich) and spread jam and/or butter icing onto the slices. Place the slices back on top of each other.

This is the easiest cake in the world!! And you can always change the quantities to suit your baking tin size.

I suggest making pancakes.

Seriously though, just get the cake mix box. Cakes from scratch are insanely hard to make anyway.

To make a cake more moist, add more oil. Just don't add too much or it gets gross.

nerds
if you want to make a moist cake add extra virgin olive oil to the mix.
I think the simplest edible cake would be pancake batter.
