You can use baking powder as a substitute ingredient of yeast .
Yes you make nan on pan :

Make a dough with the above ingredients (Can add water to make the dough). Allow it to ferment for 8 hours. In winter, you may have to make the dough with lukewarm water.

2. Shape into round balls and roll it.

3. With moistened hands lift the rolled naan and place on a skillet ( tawa). Turn the skillet upside down. The naan should be facing the flame. Turn back to original position after the naan starts turning brown. Remove from skillet after the naan is baked.

Yeast is a new thing. The original was "khameer". This was made with curd originally. Once you get your khameer then use the old dough mixed with little water in a paste form to continue getting the same effects.

And no you can not make the original Naan on a tawa. However if you insist on making it theres really no stopping you. You can however make a poor resemblance in an oven.

You can't ONLY make naan in a tandoori. I've made it before in a nonstick pan, just be careful for it not to burn. Have little to no oil in the pan and let them rise and flip them over. I am in culinary school
