It's always general consensus that the American Pit Bull Terrier (not the American Stafforshire Terrier, Bull Terrier, or Staffordshire Bull Terrier) is the el numero uno fighting dog in the world. I've even seen people go so far as to claim that a 40 lb APBT could best a Rottweiler, Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Tosa, Fila, etc in a fight. However, common sense beckons, and I find it extremely hard to believe that a little 18", 40 lb APBT terrier could defeat, say, a 27", 120 lbs Presa Canario.

Here's your average APBT:

and here's your average Presa Canario:

I just don't see the 40 lb APBT taking out the 130 lb Presa Canario.

Opinions anyone?

Oh, this has nothing to do with dog fighting; it's just normal, male, human curiosity.

Those making the claims say that the APBT's gameness, or drive to not give up, is what makes it such an excellent. But, if a 130 lb Presa Canario got into a scrap with a 40 lb APBT, I think the pit would be dead before gameness even came into play.

I'm sorry, but a pit bull's jaw strength is no strong than that of any similar size and build of dog. Do a search on "pit bull jaw strength" to see for youself. A test was done on National Geographic a while back. It tested the bite strength of the APBT, Rottweiler, and German Shepherd: this APBT had the lowest bite pressure of the three.
And...a pit bulls skin is no different than that of any other short haired dog. I have a APBT, and he yelps just like any other dog when one of my cats gets a hold of him.

If I was a "pit" fight bookie, why would I have the need to ask such a question; I'd know the answer through experience, right?

90 lbs. is a lot of weight to give between two powerful dogs. However, It would not be impossible. If it were a game APBT between 50- 60 lbs. I would bet on the APBT. Most any dog will fight back but for how long ? As I have said before, a true game APBT will not quit under any circumstances unless it is death. A larger dog would have to disable an APBT in short order or face the consequences of making a fatal mistake. An "unschooled" pit bull would be a toss of the coin as the dog has`nt been tested for gameness. If two APBT`s are matched, the weight is as close as possible. With all factors being equal, a pound of muscle can make a difference. You can rest assured that pound for pound and beyond, the game Apbt is unequalled in the canine world. My 52lb.grand champion is retired and I doubt if I`ll ever have another like him. He could (and still can) take off like a rocket and hit like a freight train. I`ve been a gamedog man for a long time and this dog would make me shudder and the hair stand straight up. In the last town celebration, two little girls ages 10 and 7 walked him in a parade and he was petted by anyone and everyone. So, that blows another myth out of the water. Good luck and don`t underestimate what an APBT can do.

True fact, a pitbull terrior has the jaw strenght to crush an elephant bone.. Its not the size or skill of the pitbull its his jaw power that makes him the most powerful fighting dog in the world.. Also the thick pig type skin which lacks the average number of nerve endings allows them to continously fight without feeling much pain, so they can continue to go.. There tatics are to grab, crush, and rip...
I'm not a fan of dog fighting but i grew up around alot of pitbulls.
