For all of you out there with fibromyalga please explain to me how you got the diagnosis? I am 25 years old and have been dealing with this prob for 8 years. Most doctors around here don't believe in it's existince. A year ago I found out I also have 2 herniated discs, and the doctors wont do anything, but push pain meds on me. If anyone has any advice please help. ~Rosanne~

I was diagnosed after feeling sick like I had the flu every day,[ but I had no fever], for a couple of years. I was exhausted. I read an article in a weekly magazine about Fibro and was shocked that it described me. I lightly pressed on the pain points shown in the article. They hurt like bee stings when pressed. 1st doctor told me I was very healthy. I could barely sit in the waiting room chair I was so miserable and just wanted to lie down in pain! She didn't believe what I said and I'm a nurse. Family practice Dr for my family put me on depression med which I needed but ignored the other signs I had. 3rd doctor was Rheumatologist[I had read they were trained to diagnose Fibro] and he did diagnose it. Now am on Disability because I have days when I cannot get up, and partial days when I cannot get up. Rarely a fair day. Go to a Rheumatologist. Many doctors don't believe us even tho Fibromyalgia is an AMA diagnosis.

My sister in law battled with diagnosis for years and went to Drs for years and years but finally went to a Mayo Clinic where she has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and a Blood Disorder.
If you aren't happy with the way your current Dr's are handling your situation you need to find new Dr's.
As for your herniated discs try a Spine Center.
I was just recently diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease and luckily I caught it in time I hope (normal aging process at the age of 53) but have also learned that one of my fellow employees has it in it's worst form and she has sought out help through a Spinal Center and she swears by it.
She is treated there and she says that they use technology discovered by NASA and it leaves her almost pain free.
My mother has Fibromyalgia and she is on Neurotin but also uses pain pills.
Neurotin is EXTREMLY expensive but don't let that deter you as you may qualify for drug assistance from the Pharmacutical Company that makes it and if you do qualify you can get it for FREE.

Good Luck

I was sent to a Rhuematologist and he diagnosed me. I think it was after ruling out other things, such as arthritis, and the blood work that came back, and also pain in spots where he pressed. (pressure points). Also I would suggest you see an endocrinoligist, and a musculo-skeletal surgeon.
