Not sure how this happened, but she's having neurological problems and can't move her tail, it just drags on the ground. And she can't move it out of the way when she pees or poops, which is messy with a long haired pet. I've read that the nerves could come back, so I'm wondering if I should give her 6 or 8 weeks before having surgery done.

Where is the tail damaged...at her spine? She's very old...you may want to wait a while if that's what your vet suggested. In the meantime, trim the hair around her tail and hind quarters. Poor kitty! I hope she heals.

The surgery would be hard on a 16 year old cat. Her tail will heal, although maybe not straight.

Ask your vet .... the surgery may be too much for an older cat.

Hope she feels better, soon.

P.S. You might trim her tail very short so it is less messy until you decide.

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I think this would be a wise choice to have a vet take a look first to see if its even worth taking a chance waiting.. maybe it could hurt your cat in the long run by waiting... You could also seach it on google ;-) good luck to you and your kitty cat!

your cat is old
have the poor dear put to sleep
it is not often necessary to amputate a broken tail. they can be set and splinted, but your cat has other problems and should be
given the final solution.

Bring this up to the vet next time you see him and he might refer you to a specialist.
