Sequential scan GPS receivers are all but obsolete. They scan for GPS satellites, one at a time. For a stationary receiver, the errors are minimal, but motion introduces positioning errors.

Parallel or multichannel GPS is the norm for modern receivers. The accuracy is substantially better, particularly since the parallel receivers can also do carrier phase detection, which also improves accuracy
