The ritual I use is fairly simple, but a bit long. I first sit in the most comfortable spot in the house (or outside if there isn't one). I close my eyes and picture the energies around me filling me with a bright white or golden light (I prefer white) filled with love, peace, and protection. Then I walk through each room with sage and let the smoke carry the positive energy everywhere. I picture the light and smoke spreading from me into each room, each nook and cranny, every crawl space, closet, etc. After I've been to each room, I use my singing bowl (you can use a bell) and let it ring for a moment or two in every room and at the doorways. The whole time I do this I carry the picture of the light surrounding my home, myself, my loved ones, etc. Once I have rung the bowl in the last room I say out loud that all positive energy is welcome. That which is nurturing, loving, kind, and joyful is welcome. I ask for protection for those within and without and let none enter who mean mischief or harm. As I have said it, an it harm none, so mote it be. Then I open the windows and let fresh air into the rooms (even if it's cold, just make sure you turn off the heat). When I feel like the negative energies have been banished and nothing but positive remains, I close the windows and take blessed salt water and sprinkle it at all thresholds and windowsills inside and out.

Told you it was long! The point is that this is what works for me. You may need to have a different ritual/blessing depending on your beliefs. But this one works well.

Bless the home with prayer, bless those who come, bless those who go out, bless the delivery of mail, bless the gas man, the watermeter reader. Bless the groceries so that everything going into your home and into your mouth has a blessing on it. Pray for a hedgerow round and about the house that nothing shall befall or damage anything or anyone in it.
