I know police can be good people but in a whole.......

do you agree that cops are corrupt tools of the local municipalities to gain revenue.

seems like a lot of cops have a chip on their shoulders.. like they have the big man syndrom..

they were picked on and hate everyone and want to empose their authority..

especially in small towns.. fines are steap and cops really can harrass you..

if you have a local buisness you have to grease the police to keep them on your side and to ignore you a bit.

so do you agree, cops are corrupt

and you can't do anything about it................:)

Of course they are corrupt!
Where else do you see people enforcing laws among citizens, yet covering their violations among themselves?

As a Criminal Justice student I want to first start of saying I think you are a moron.

Secondly, I would like to know what other profession is out there that normal everyday people go out and face the dangers of today's world up close and personal. Police officers are thrown on calls with very little details to why they are being sent there. They are not aware if there are weapons and they do not know if this will be the idiot with a gun that will try to take their life. FOR VERY LITTLE PAY!

Every profession has a bad seed. Big deal, it's life. All cops are FAR from corrupt, and if they are found to be corrupt they are let go.

Instead of being a blind idiot take a little time out of your oh so busy life and do some ride alongs I guarantee you will have a whole new RESPECT for these brave heroes.

OH yeah I hope you sleep well at night because I can BET the families and loved ones of officers DO not while the officer is on duty... PROTECTING AND SERVING YOU ungrateful citizens.

Grow up

Cops are like everyone else - some are moral and good people; others are immoral and no better than the criminals they deal with. I have never been personally harassed by a cop, but both my late husband and my boyfriend have been. My husband's case was absolutely ridiculous: he was the editor of a small town newspaper and had a video mailed to him of a cop beating a drunk driving suspect in the local jai;; when my late husband asked the police for additional information, they started harassing us. We got a parking ticket in the middle of the night and were followed around. He kept getting calls at work from the police chief demanding that he drop his requests.

My boyfriend has been harassed by cops who look at his skin color (native American with a copper look) and flash their headlights and flashlights at him and stop him for no reason.

Also in my county, it's hired parking enforcement officers (not cops) to go out and seek stupid stuff (like a truck parked on a side street) and give them $300 tickets with no warnings. The warnings stopped two years ago when the county government had money difficulties. Now they just ticket, and there are about 50 different offenses it will ticket.

"do you agree that cops are corrupt tools of the local municipalities to gain revenue."

No. I think that cops have quotas that they have to live up to, but in my area, it is easy to find offenders to hand out a citation to. I don't think they intentionally cite anyone "just to meet their quota".

"seems like a lot of cops have a chip on their shoulders.. like they have the big man syndrom.. "

I don't think you would be so hard on them if you actually saw the low lifes they have to deal with. Drug addicts in a different mental state that swing at them, guns are pulled on them, hostage negotiations, fires...it sure as heck would get to me. And if a cop walked up to you, all meek and hunched down, barely whispering, would you take them seriously?

"they were picked on and hate everyone and want to empose their authority"

Oh please. I was picked on incessantly, and I am not a cop. Most of them follow a bloodline of cops or firemen. It has nothing to do with a psychological approach.

"especially in small towns.. fines are steap and cops really can harrass you.."

Because no one takes their small town laws seriously. The smallers towns are neater, quieter, and safer than large cities, and they want to keep it that way.

"if you have a local buisness you have to grease the police to keep them on your side and to ignore you a bit."

Oh, bullcrap. Unless you are importing pandas from China, or dealing with the local black market, why would you "grease the police", they are there to protect and serve, not bribe and ignore.

Just because there are a few bad apples in the barrel doesn't mean ALL cops are corrupt. I would keep my mouth shut about such opinions if you ever get arrested, though. ;)

And man, use a spell check, PLEASE.

Some cops are corrupt, and its true that in small towns sometimes a few corrupt together can be like a terrorizing force, but not all are bad, and I bet if enough people banded together and complained/brought attention to the right authorities, something would be done about it. Unfortunately when you are scared and feel threatened and outnumbered, most people tend to keep quiet. It's really sad, but I am grateful for the police that are in the business to protect people and not on a power trip.

Well I would like to thank everybody that has stuck up for us cops and yes there are some bad seeds in agencies but not all of us, as far as the small towns the reason the fines are so much is that people don't take the same town seriously and that is how they bring in money for stuff like road repairs and for the schools, brush up on your goverment and you'll see where the money for tickets and fines go

No, I don't believe that Cops are corrupt. Being married to one and having worked closley with Law Enforcement myself, I have seen the occasional bad apple, but that is in every profession, and it is unfair to judge them all by the actions of few. If the municipalities "use" them to gain revenue, that is not their fault, especially when you are told that if you don't have X amount of contacts that you can be fired. The reason that they have a "chip" on their shoulders is because they don't know if you have a gun, or what your intentions are, and all they want to do is get through their shift and go home to their families. The cops that are shot or injured by criminals are the ones that look weak, it has been a proven fact. I have never ever seen anyone harassed by a Cop, usually it is the other way around, I have seen alot of people harass Officers in uniform, cock off and be very rude and disrespectful, usually from someone that knows that they are in trouble.

You would think cops would be corrupt with their high and mighty attitude but fact is if they didn't act like they ran the town people would walk all over them as well as they would be putting their lives in danger with complacency. In my opinion yes there is the occasional crooked cop however most are just trying to do there job well and keep your community safe.

cops are hella assholes in small towns.

I can't leave my house without seeing a police officer patroling, it sucks, they try to intimidate me while I drive, they have accused me of stealing my own car, etc. When will it end?

there have been alot of cases of police corruption lately, its a shame but there are those on the police force who do abuse their power, its getting harder to trust any cop now ,because you hear things like the one in nevada who was stopping women and raping them,or the ones who got caught running a drug ring, and the list goes on ............they need to improve their image, for respect is earned it is never given
