There are several things that you can do depending on the difference in the dye color and your natural hair color.

You can try a dye removal kit bought at any local retailer if the difference was only one or two shades, however if you died it a great deal darker,...the most likely to work is a professional bleaching. I am a blonde who had to die my hair brown for a play. My hair is waist length, and I DID NOT want to cut it to remove the die. I had it professionally bleached for about eighty dollars which returned it to its natural color.

If you do bleach it, make sure to wait a minimum of six weeks between procedures, and I would also suggest some deep conditoning such as VO5 hot oil or Parnevue leave in conditioner...both can be bought at Wal-MArt or a local retailer.

I hope this helps because I definitly know where you are coming from.

No matter what you do to get the color out, your hair will fry. You should go to a salon. You end up spending the same amount on product to remove the color by the time you get it out. Not to mention it will only take them one time to remove it and you run less of a risk of breaking all your hair off. Believe me. If you want you can go to a beauty supply and see if they carry color remover. You can bleach it out as well, or make it darker with a color you prefer. You really have to be carefull when working with different products, mixing the wrong ones can also cause major breakage. You also need to be aware of the tone. The wrong tones can cause terrifying color!!! If your hair has gold or red tones naturally you should use a warm color. If you must do it yourself, ask a proffesional about the colors they carry. There are a lot of factors you need to consider.

Buy a hair color stripper, L'Oreal sells one. I used it and it worked great. Try to avoid bleaching it, you can also go to a hair dresser for help.
But, my favorite way of fading hair color, is wash your hair with dish soap. Sounds crazy, but the PH balance of the soap strips the color out of you hair. It may take about a week or so for you to notice, but I swear it works, and it won't mess up your hair.

If you've gotten it too dark you can shampoo it several times in a row and it will usually lighten up some. Or if you got it too light you can use a semi-perminant color to darken it up without damaging it.

If it needs to be lighter...use a stripper, or get highlights thrown in it to brighten it up!(*this can only be done with bleach.)
However you can also color it darker, without having any damage.
~~I would suggest a *semi-permanent color*
in case you change your mind (on the color your putting on). Because after it's on, you can still change your mind and change it to a different color easier. Cosmetologist =o)

Go to a salon.... have it died to your natural color again.. don't do it yourself because then you will probably ruin it for a long time. Get a deep contitioning and repairing treatment too!
