Friend, to me it looks very logical .In any relationship you , first , start as friends . always. Then you work your ways through. Accepting the weaks and the strengths, agreeing to give in and take in.. These steps , subconsciously push you two towards a relationship which is DIFFERENT form friendship. This is the next level needing more commitment from both the sides. If you had succeeded in this transistion peroid you would have taken the relationship tp a legal point ... that of marriage.

But , then as you would have, unfortunately, this broke up at the relationship level itself. Two matured adults can still be friends if both of you agree to come down from the relationship point to the friends point. Since you seem to accept it he /she , not it would look to me that he/ she expected much from you and you could not give . he should be feeling ackward about it.

it is upto too take the initiative and get him back to the friends level. it is possible. Please accept the fact that rejection is the most self destructive thing for the human being. It has to be rebuilt

Because it's difficult to return to a superficial state of friendship after being in the more intimate setting of dating. People know more about each other after dating so it would seem pretentious or redundant to say we are just friends now. Hence the awkwardness after being more open with each other that plain ordinary friendship usually doesn't display.

yes it is awkard plus then the next person you date most likely won't want you too hanging out and it becomes a complicated mess. That's why a lot of people choose not to date their best friends it either ends up GREAT or ends up ruining the friendship. Sorry for your loss. There are tons of people out there though that will be great friends

Its been natural that after the broken relationship you had the hard time to talk to.Maybe the reason is that the relationship would be gettin complicated if you still make hi and hello`s though you know you hurt each other.

Yeah it is really awkward i cant even look at my ex-girl in the eyes when i see her in public..

I guess that chemistry and attraction die with the break up because you both already know what each other are about and nothing else to say..

Guys want sex with the girl they broke up with, girls want sex with the next guy and want to keep the last guy as "friends"... problem is, the last guy and every other guy except the next guy of course don't like sharing, of course the girl wouldn't consider it that, it would only be having a "friend" the guy sees it as sharing and only wants the girl for himself even if he's with a new girl.

I know!! It does suck. I am having the same problem. I want to be friends with him, but he doesn't want to stay friends with me. Try talking to your ex and tell him how you feel, that you want to stay friends with him and you don't want him out of your life forever. If he can't accept that, then it is his loss! He'll be the one to regret losing you in the future!

when the couple's relationship was based only for sex, that is what happen.when the couple's relationship was focused in love (they loved each other),and of course sex;then they can be friend after a relationship.Because they really loved each other, not only for to have sex.Good question.

Romance complicates the friendship thing...You get to another level, and things can't go back to the casual way they were before.

depends, how serious were they? I don't know if I could be after I was intimate with a guy. I have been friends with guys that I wasn't though.
