Before my diagnosis, I worked out and was quite active. And even for about a year I was an active runner, which I absolutely loved. I had always planned to start running again, but I got caught between having baby #2 and then having a hysterectomy. Several months after my surgery came the diagnosis of FMS. My doc, as well as myself, believes that my FMS began while I was pregnant. I had a terrible pregnancy with a sudden onset of severe pain throught my entire body, especially in the pelvic, hip, and upper leg areas. These are the same exact places I hurt the worst right now.

What I'm wanting to know is...

Will I ever be able to become a runner again while at the same time being cursed with fibromyalgia syndrome? Somedays I can hardly move, and then if I move too much another day, I pay for it the next two or three days after.

Someone please help me!! I need my running time back. I have some serious weight to lose and major stress to release. HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPP!!!!

My mother and my sister in law take Neurotin along with pain killers and they function as well as they want to.
There aren't many people who after being diagnosed with this disease seem to have alot of determination and allow themselves to just sit and ache and avoid life's activities.
Talk to your doctor about Neurotin but be aware that this drug's cost is astronomical! You may have to apply for Drug Company Assistance and hopefully you will qualify.
Please,Please,Please DO NOT think that your pregnancy caused the disease. Just be aware that the symptoms probably just presented themselves during a time in your life that your hormones were in a different order than usual because of pregnancy changes.
You probably had already developed the problem long before the pregnancy but it only became more apparent along with all of the other changes your body was experiencing during your pregnancy.
Good Luck

I can only tell you about my fibromyalgia. After trying to work as a nurse with the daily pain, flu-like feeling, and exhaustion, I finally had to quit work. I am on Disability. Sometimes cannot get up except to go to bathroom. It hurts too bad. People who don't know about it think you look fine so you must be fine. But try working every day with the 'flu'! Try Weight Watchers for the weight. Many Blessings to you.

I'm not sure. My mom was diagnosed with the same thing some years ago. The pain was awful. I remember her not being able to walk at times. Then she got on this wonderful medication which I forgot the name of. She was still able to go to the gym to work out, but she's also 56 years old so actually RUNNING isn't something she takes up.

I would ask your doctor to be sure, but I think you'll be okay to run...just don't over exert yourself. but still ask a doc

Wow I wish I could help you. Try starting out slow. Most doctors in my area think fybromyalgia is the easter bunny (not real). Try starting out slow. Like a walk around the block. Try eating more fruits and veggies. Maybe try eating leaner meats too. This can help your body feel better. Fatty meats can make your pain worse. The only way I get around is thanks to strong pain meds. If you're hurting badly maybe ask your doctor for something new. Good luck ~Rosanne~

Try eating more protein, do this for a couple of months I think that this will cure your FMS and give you the strength to get back in shape; as far as getting back as a runner start slow and gain the strength you once had.

Have you tried running? How do you feel after you run, are you in pain? Sometimes, working out can be good for your health, sometimes, not so much. Talk to your rheumotologist, if you don't have one, get one. The only way you'll know if you can run again, is to start doing it.
