millions of years old??
The bristle-cone pine, found in some of the USA states, is the oldest living thing ... and it is about the same age as the oldest parts of the Bible. Keep things in perspective; just because you think your parents are ancient ... don't figure they are not valuable.

It is so up-to-date on its insights into people, their needs, their wants, their hopes, their aspirations.

Why do I still believe and try to follow the Bible?
Because it is the most precious thing this world has.

Of course, the Enemy would like for you to figure it is obsolete; that sin and salvation are so "out of date"; that humanity has solved all their problems and ushered in utopia.

Yet the Old Testament's 613 mitzvot are the best guideline of how people should interact with other people, and the N.T. guidelines are similar, though more along the lines of "you shall" rather than "you shall not". Just read the Sermon on the Mount and the Sermon on the Plain. Wouldn't those be great? Won't they be great?

1. Your dating methods are not accurate. There is more evidence for and more copies of the New Testament alone than any 10 pieces of antiquated literature - (do you question those others ones, too?)
2. Define obsolete - does that mean it doesn't suit your fancy?
3. I suppose you have a better guide for life and practice?
...I hope you have read it; if not, read it before you dismiss it.
...I do wish you a blessed eternity with the Lord Jesus.

It's less than 2000 years old, much newer than some other sacred texts. And old doesn't necessarily mean bad.

I don't follow the Bible as I'm not a Christian, though I do read it and take some important lessons from it. It is simply not, to me, sacred.

Those that scoff at the Bible woulld do well to read some of it. There is within it's covers, along with the parts that anger us, some great beauty and wisdom. It is those who wish to press the rest of the world into compliance with their traditions that really harm the reputation of this collection of books.

The Words in the Scriptures may have been written way before my time but in 1988 I met God personally. I was suicidal and prayed one night, to whom - I did not know, and asked if God were real to show me or that I would kill myself. To please send ministers to my door. I'd lived there 3 months and never had ministers come to my door and the next day, there were ministers knocking on my door. But it didn't stop there. Awhile later I couldn't get the lid off the mayo and after beating it to death and my hand almost bleeding, I cried out in frustration, "Jesus if you're real, help me!" and the lid flew right off like there was no reason to have been trying as hard as I was. I was alone - except for my baby girl - and I was freaked. About a week later the same thing happened only with the pickles. I was determined to get it myself this time. I tried everything next to shattering the glass of the jar but it would not come off. Finally, I said the same thing and again, it immediately came off. And it wasn't just that, things began to change inside of me. My depression began to minimize enough that I got my GED and started business school. And then, little by little I started to get familiar with the Bible and as I did, things would change in my life. Many things transpired that weren't natural these last 18 years - many miraculous, beautiful things that have filled me with a knowingness of His Glory.

Dear person, God the Father of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His Holiness AND His Judgments will still prevail no matter how many years ago the Word was actually written. Those Words are changing my life and helped me to know Him and His ways well. I pray you find this out for yourself.

I don't follow the Bible I follow Jesus my Lord and I learn about my past, the present and my future from the Bible...It can be one billion years old but it has great promises and hope for my life.

My high school books were maybe 2 years old when I got them and they are more obsolete than the Bible...

"The sphere of religion belongs the faith that the regulations valid for the world of existence are rational, that it is comprehensible to reason. I can not conceive of a genuine scientist without that profound faith. The situation may be expressed by an image; science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."

I do not believe it id obsolete, on the contrary its speaks to my specific circumstances every. The Word gives me guidance, peace and instruction on how to handle every situations. In the NT if you replace where it says "you" with your name the Lord is speaking to you directly. Belief is a choice. Just as you may choose to not believe I choose to believe. God is grieved when you know the truth and you CHOOSE not believe. It is in this belief that I choose to follow the Word of God.
